Outdoor activities from hiking to tailgating

Residents don't need to travel far to reach community parks and attractions. Sarah Colman-Livengood Park sits 3 miles south of Stayton Meadows, serving as a hub for local athletes and dog lovers, while the paved Rock Island Trail, running through the very center of the neighborhood, is a favorite for joggers and cyclists. Sports fanatics will also be on cloud nine with Arrowhead Stadium and Kauffman Stadium, the respective homes of the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals, just a 2-mile drive away. At the sports complex, tailgating is almost a way of life. "Fans get there so early in the morning and they bring their barbecues. They're barbecuing, they're sharing their food — you could be the last person to park in that row, and somebody is offering you something, especially if you didn't bring anything," says local Realtor Connie Balano of ReeceNichols, who is a lifelong Kansas City resident. "It's a very good atmosphere. Whether you're bringing children or not, the tailgating is so much fun."
