Homes sell for much less than properties on the Kansas side of the state line, Brandon Plunkett says.
"A home that would sell for $300,000 on the Kansas side would sell here for $120,000 to $130,000," Brandon Plunkett says.
A Realtor with Platinum Realty, Plunkett has been selling homes in the area for three years.
Homes here sell in 28 days compared to the national average of 43 days. The median sale price is $157,500, compared to the KCMO average of $270,000.
First-time home buyers and investors are attracted to Swope Park Campus's relatively lower price point. More than half of Swope Park Campus residents own their homes.
"This is a great area for first-time home buyers. There are lots of good grants available through HUD," he says.
Architectural styles, including bungalows, ranch-style and traditional homes, date from the early to mid-century. Many maintain their original hardwood floors and crown molding. Prices range from $80,000 to $220,00. For $80,000, one can find 900-square-foot 2-bedroom bungalows. A 3- to 4-bedroom Tudor-inspired remodeled home can sell for $180,000 to $220,000.
