Kearns is a smaller area that embodies a small-town, neighborly feel but is much larger in population. The suburb, 13 miles west of Salt Lake City, is a bedroom community known for its affordability and access to some of the best recreation, including the Utah Olympic Oval. The former Winter Olympic site is now an area for residents to hit the rink. However, it’s constantly working to improve on its land use and individual quality of life. Its population has remained steady at around 36,000 residents. However, its demographics are younger and more diverse, with a median age of 31 years and nearly half the population identifying as non-white. As of March 2024, Kearns is officially a city thanks to the passing of House Bill 35, which turned former metro townships into cities.
