About Kennedale, TX

Small town living in friendly Kennedale

Reflecting its motto "You're here, your home," Kennedale stands out. When homebuyers consider a new hometown, they often want to know about the material things it offers — but in Kennedale, it's all about the people. Just 11 miles south of Fort Worth and 32 miles from Dallas, with a small population of around 10,000, Kennedale is a Tarrant County city found south of Arlington. Amid the hubbub of industrial sites and major highways, "It's a small-town feel and a close-knit community," says local Realtor Melanie MacDonald with Winters Legacy Realty who works and sells houses in the area. "We have a lot more community involvement, I would say, than the average small town. The people here are what make the town." Welcome to Kennedale, offering several communal green spaces with a splash pad and many opportunities for youth sports, along with beloved annual events.

Choice between leafy lawns or seclusion in Kennedale

Situated around parks, schools and industrial sites, when it comes to houses in Kennedale, the city is split into two different sections. The areas on the city's western side are more established and are home to older houses, like bungalows, mobile homes and ranch-style houses. These residences have larger lots than in other parts of the city, and mature trees provide plenty of shade throughout the city's streets. Houses usually cost around $350,000 in this part of town. For a different vibe, new-traditional brick homes in planned subdivisions are on the city's eastern side. These houses come with built-in garages and will cost a little more than the older homes in the city, nearing over $500,000.

Kennedale locals spend hot days at Sonora Park

With three city parks, residents of Kennedale always have a place to spend outdoors, whether it's picnicking, playing sports, or hanging out at the community center. Sonora Park on South New Hope Road comes alive with its splash pad in the summertime with bright red interactive water features for the kids to enjoy. "It's one of the coolest parks because of the splash pad," MacDonald says. "It has ducks that you can feed and a little lake you can fish out of." The park also has a playground for kids, a nine-hole disc golf course, and a baseball field for youth sports.

Shopping and dining down Kennedale Parkway

Kennedale Parkway bisects through the community and serves as the city's main commercial hub with municipal offices, car dealerships, chain restaurants, and a bunch of manufacturing sites. Though there is little big box shopping in Kennedale, locals are just a quick drive to La Gran Plaza de Fort Worth, a small mall just 9 miles to the north, along with The Parks Mall at Arlington, which is the same distance east. As for grub, many people drive right past Goldee's Barbeque. However, this unassuming shack off of Dick Price Road was rated #1 in the 2021 edition of a list of 50 Best BBQ Joints by Texas Monthly. The proof is in the lunch line that pours out the shack, with patrons waiting for its signature smoked meats.

This tight-knit small town sure gets down for the holidays. For nearly a quarter of a century, the Kennedale Hometown Christmas has been held at TownCenter Park. Though the community is car-dependent, bus stops are found along Mansfield Highway.
