Living local
Stocker is a shopper’s paradise. “There are more small businesses than there are franchises here,” says Jennifer Capponi, owner of the Daily Dose Café and lifelong Kenosha resident. “It’s a very close-knit community. The community supports all of the local small businesses in the area.” Residents appreciate that not only are they close to these shops, but they are also centrally located to neighborhood parks and entertainment options like Cinemark Tinseltown off Green Bay Road. When they want the energy of a downtown or to visit Lake Michigan, the Kenosha coast is only a five-mile drive east.

To start the day off, residents enjoy a classic diner breakfast from one of the booths at Hillcrest Family Restaurant. Down 60th Street at The Daily Dose Café, customers enjoy a warm cup of coffee. “People who walk their dogs sit outside and families come here for breakfast all the time,” Capponi says. For a unique lunch and dinner experience, Sooshibay Bar and Restaurant serves sushi on a conveyor belt to customers. When searching for a new outfit or dishrags for the house, Marshall’s and Walmart are some of the variety of box stores situated along Green Bay Road. Locally-owned, Lulu Birds is a vintage spot downtown that sells refurbished furniture and consignments. Play ball
Quiet Saturday mornings are broken up by the ring of a bat hitting a baseball across one of the four baseball fields at Charles Nash Park. Among the 54 acres, there are multiple sections of open space for children to run around or to use for a game of flag football, and by the picnic shelter, there are also playsets to climb. At Towerline Park, children have more recreational fields to use for soccer and batting practices; there are also plenty of swings on the playground for children to test who can reach the highest height while holding on tight to the chains. From explorations at the parks to supporting their local businesses, locals make the most of their neighborhood’s offerings.
