The neighborhood of Killeen/Fort Cavazos offers diverse housing options.
Between Waco and Austin
Located between Austin and Waco near Interstate 35, Killeen-Fort Cavazos is a community-oriented suburb. “I’ve been there since 1985, and I would classify it as a great place to raise a family,” says Marilyn Joyce of The Agents Premiere Realty Group. Many of the people in the area are affiliated with the Fort Cavazos Army post, founded in 1942 and home to over 50,000 military and civilian employees. Civilians not affiliated with the post commute to work. “The base is pretty much the only major employer in the area,” Joyce says. “If you work for a big company and it’s not the base, you’re commuting to Austin or Waco.” The Killeen area does have a downtown with a handful of restaurants and there is convenient shopping nearby.
Ranch-style homes with spacious properties are available in Killeen/Fort Cavazos.
Ranch-style homes on Texas streets
The median home price for a single-family home in the area is right at $235,000. “These are extremely reasonable prices for what you get,” Joyce says. While most of the houses are brick, ranch-style homes, there are larger new homes being built. Houses are in neighborhoods tucked away on quiet streets featuring roundabouts and cul-de-sacs to limit speed and traffic. They feature driveways for private parking, and many have good-sized fenced-in yards, ideal for pet owners. The neighborhoods have wide sidewalks for exercising, but locals bring sunscreen and water, as there are not many trees to block out the Texas sun.
