While there’s not much green space in the area, Harriet Tubman Park offers residents a half-mile loop for walking and a grassy area to walk pets or relax in the sun. “The weather is perfect,” says Castillo. “You’ll feel all four seasons and actually enjoy them.” Golfers visit William Creek Golf Course for healthy competition on the 18-hole golf course. In the warmer months, people head to the Tennessee River for canoeing, kayaking and to hop on the Knoxville Cycleboats.
Take the bus, car or plane
The KAT bus system offers public transportation for those who commute to work or school. Drivers use Interstate-40, or Tennessee Main Street, to get around town. Knoxville Downtown Island Airport is central to the area and offers pilot lessons and a place to watch planes take off, while the McGhee Tyson Airport is used for international and domestic flights, just 12 miles away.
Dining in downtown Knoxville
Residents find groceries at Red Panda Grocery, which is in downtown Knoxville. Fun can also be found downtown, which is lined with Victorian-style buildings, restaurants and bars. After a day downtown, enjoy what nightlife has to offer at Boyd’s Jig & Reel, which has an extensive cocktail menu. For late-night eats, grab a slice at Barley’s Taproom and Pizzeria. The Tennessee Amphitheater is also located downtown and is used for concerts year-round. After hearing an award-winning artist, head to Curious Dogs for a quick bite to eat.
