Mechanicsville homeowners can live in pieces of history

Older and historic shotgun homes from the early 1900s line the streets of Mechanicsville. Many have been renovated to give residents modern amenities while still preserving the history of the home. Future homeowners can also find three-bedroom bungalows with wide porches and small yards. Because homes with garages aren’t common, most residents park on uncovered driveways or in the street. Home prices can range from $100,000 to $300,000. Homes spend about a week on the market before new residents purchase them. Most residents are renters, but there are opportunities for investors and future homeowners.

Downtown Knoxville gets busy when football season comes around, but that doesn’t stop locals from cheering on their home team. Visitors can join in on free yoga sessions, take self-guided tours of James White’s Fort or sip beer while hanging out with other canine parents.

Nothing but net at Fulton High

Parents send their young kids to Maynard Elementary School, which gets a C-plus from Niche. Students later attend Knoxville County’s first public charter school, Emerald Academy. This college preparatory school welcomes kindergarten through eighth-grade students to try out for sports and prepare for their future academic careers. Niche gives Emerald Academy a B-minus. Students learn under three different academies within the B-minus-rated Fulton High School, including The Academy of Communications, The Academy of Health and Human Services and The Academy of Public Service. When not studying for future careers, students cheer on their four-time state-champion basketball team in the winter.
