Rural vibes with urban conveniences in southwest Lafayette

On the southwest edge of Lafayette, Old Romney toes the line between the city and its surrounding farmland. This suburban area reaps the benefits of being in the city, not far from the well-attended festivals and nearby shopping. Yet it's far enough on the outskirts to support a peaceful, laid-back lifestyle. While the Lafayette School Corporation serves the center of the city, this neighborhood falls under the outlying Tippecanoe School Corporation, which offers agricultural programming at the high school level. "We call it a rural subdivision because it's part of the county schools," says Sally Curwick, broker associate with Re/Max at the Crossing. "But it's still part of Lafayette, and walking distance to the grocery store." Its convenient location on the city's west side appeals to students and employees of Purdue University, located across the Wabash River in West Lafayette.

Old Romney consists of apartments and townhouses on the north side and single-family homes on the south side, including the Romney Run subdivision. This area enjoys relatively newer homes, built between the mid-'90s and the mid-'00s. New Traditional homes are the most common style, especially raised ranches and L-shaped ranches with two-car garages jutting out. Brick and vinyl are also common on the exterior. Some have added decoration like delicate tracing on the roof gables.
