Nature at the doorstep

In addition to the urban conveniences, some homes in Larabee back up against the 150-acre Acadiana Park Nature Station, a wooded escape in the metropolitan area of the fourth largest city in Louisiana. Its primary focus is to educate people about nature's role and how important it is to preserve it. Several trails are available to observe the plants and wildlife that are the focus.

Keeping top of mind while purchasing a home in this area
Along with the good aspects of owning a home in this part of the country, there are also some important things to remember. “Keep in mind that when buying a home, it could be a greater risk for flooding,” says Tommy Hayes, a Realtor with Latter & Blum with almost 20 years of selling experience. “The area is prone to hurricanes and prolonged rains. It’s also important to know that flood insurance is not part of the homeowners' insurance policy.” Most homes in this neighborhood are priced between $150,000 and $300,000, with the majority being above $200,000. The average price per square foot is $113. Some of the homes that were built within the past five years are still priced below $300,000. Walkability is limited for long distances
While getting around within subdivisions and small neighborhoods can be easily done with sidewalks, it’s not easy if you want to travel a long way and don’t have a car. A few bus stops that venture north to the Stirling Lafayette Shopping Center are found along Louisiana Avenue, and a bus stop on Willow Street is west of the intersection with Louisiana Avenue. Interstate 10 is to the north, where traveling eastbound for about an hour will get you to Baton Rouge. The nearest medical facility is 6 miles away at Ochsner University Hospital.
