Outdoor fun on the lake
Living on Lake Oswego, residents of Country Club-North Shore have 24/7 access to all the fun they want, often right out their front door. Whether heading to the water for paddleboarding, boating or enjoying a dinner with views of the sunset, the lake is a source of fun and recreation enjoyed by people from all over Oregon. Off the water, the 100-year-old Oswego Lake Country Club features a an 18-hole golf course, pool dining and social and golf events to its members. The Oswego Iron Heritage Trail is a tour route that connects Iron Mountain Park with First Addition and downtown Lake Oswego. Stretching several miles through the neighborhood, the trail is dedicated to exploring the area's historic ties to the iron industry and the Oregon Iron Company.

Peaceful, south-of-Portland homes selling at a premium
Homes in Country Club-North Shore are known for their large scale and forested, peaceful surroundings. "We have beautiful seasonal trees here that grow nice and tall. I also enjoy seeing lots of bright and vibrant gardens in the neighborhood," says Matt Gregor, Assistant Principal at Our Lady of the Lake School. Ranging from lakeside settings to well-treed lots farther in the hills, buyers can find a mix of popular lake and country home styles, with most being built around the 1960s. Prices typically run between $1.5 and $4.5 million; even a four-bedroom Ranch-style house built in 1954 will fetch $1.4 million when in the Country Club-North Shore neighborhood. More recently built, suburban-style homes like traditional and split-levels are the least expensive in the neighborhood, selling for just over a million. More unique, leisurely country and Craftsman homes sell for around $4.5 million and feature elaborate landscaping as well as private patios and docks along the lake where residents can sit and enjoy the naturally higher levels of sunlight that fall on Lake Oswego's north shore. Country Club-North Shore has a CAP Index Crime Score of 2 out of 10, which is lower than the national average of 4.

Take a stroll through First Addition for shopping and dining
Made up of a grid of walkable streets, the neighboring First Addition neighborhood has options ranging from beer at Duke's Public House to Italian fare at Tucci, and even ice cream sundaes at the Lake Oswego Ice Creamery and Restaurant. When in the mood for a simple, nostalgic meal, Deno's Pizzeria has a whole wall full of black and white photos where patrons can look over the old days of Lake Oswego. Safeway is also located right in First Addition.
For fresh and local fruits and veggies, the Lake Oswego Farmers Market is held on the first Sunday of every month at Millennium Plaza Park. The market features live music and a wide variety of goods. "The market is always packed on the weekends," Bodle says.

Top-rated Oregon schools close to home
Students in Country Club-North Shore may attend Lake Oswego School District, which Niche rates as the best public district in the state. Forest Hills Elementary, which earns an A rating, is located less than a mile away in First Addition. Lake Oswego Junior High and Lake Oswego Senior High are also nearby, located next to each other on Country Club Road. Lake Oswego Junior High receives an A-plus, while Lake Oswego Senior High gets an A from Niche and is ranked as the best high school in Oregon. Students attending Lake Oswego Senior High have a range of clubs and activities to participate in, from language groups like the French and Chinese clubs to hands-on activities like Actions for Animals or the Fiber Arts Club, where students can learn to crochet and knit.
Private school choices include religious schools like Our Lady of the Lake School, a private Catholic school for elementary and middle school. "We have full-time teachers for art, music and PE, and also partner with service providers so kids have access to therapy and special education resources," Gregor says. Our Lady of the Lake Catholic School also earns an A-plus from Niche.

Getting around the greater Lake Oswego area
Main roads like Lakeview Boulevard and Boones Ferry Road make it easy to get around the local area, while Oregon Route 43 leads commuters the 9 miles to Portland in just 20 minutes. "It used to take 3 days to drive to the lake before there were planned interstates or highways, but now the entire Lake Oswego area has become almost completely residential," Bodle says. Portland International Airport is about 19 miles north of Country Club-North Shore, connected by Interstate 84 and offering flights across the country. The nearest hospital, Providence Milwaukie Hospital, is about 8 miles northeast along Route 43.
