Lakeside living west of St. Louis, MO
Located just beyond the busy roadways of Wentzville, the third fastest-growing city in Missouri, Lake St. Louis offers a relaxing change of pace. The neighborhood was first developed in the 1960s as a private resort community and continues to maintain its leisurely feel to this day, even as it grows. Suburban homes line the area's two different lakes and residents have quick access to both shopping at The Meadows and two different Interstates. Being part of the Lake Saint Louis Community Association also allows residents direct access to the water, a community clubhouse and a golf course. "The lifestyle here is really the big draw. People like being able to join social clubs or take their pontoon boats out in the evenings for dinners on the water," says Suzanne Matyiko, a local resident and associate broker with Berkshire Hathaway. Living in Lake St. Louis means having highly-rated schools, quality recreation and social opportunities all in one area, all less than 40 miles west from the city of St. Louis.

Heading outdoors on Lake St. Louis
When it comes to spending time outside, the water is the main attraction. Matyiko says that there are clubs for activities like water skiing, but most people engage in more leisurely activities like fishing or cruising. "Jet skis also aren't allowed and there are size restrictions on boats as well," Matyiko says. Members of the Community Association also have access to a fitness center, pool and a nine-hole golf course. Social clubs are also available, ranging from card games to pickleball and even yoga. Apart from the lakes, the pond at Boulevard Park creates a scenic backdrop for open grassy space and paved walking trails. The park offers a shelter and grills for community gatherings, as well as a playground with faux-rock caverns and a network of nets for kids to climb on. Two baseball diamonds and a volleyball court are also available for anyone who wants to get a game going.

Lakeside homes with large floorplans
Homes in Lake St. Louis were built as early as 1960, with many of its properties dating to more recent decades. Traditional designs are common, with a selection of modern farmhouses and contemporary ranch-style homes mixed in. Surrounding the community's two lakes, many homes feature private docks and grassy quarter to half-acre lots. Typical single-family homes sell from $300,000 to $550,000, but properties with over 3,500 square feet or lakefront real estate can sell for more. Keller Williams Realty West Team Leader Chad Wilson says that demand is high in the area and lakefront houses typically cost from $800,000 to $1.3 million. “Lake St. Louis is being developed, and people are moving here more and more often,” Wilson says. As the community continues to grow, golf carts have also become more popular. "All the sidewalks within the Community Association are being expanded to 5 feet so residents can drive around the neighborhood without worrying about parking," Matyiko says. Lake St. Louis has a CAP Index Crime Score of 2 out of 10, which is lower than the national average of 4.

For an Italian option, Cugino's Craft Kitchen serves classics like baked gnocchi and chicken pasta. Community events at Lake St. Louis
Every Saturday from April to October, residents can find the Lake St. Louis Farmers and Artists Market located right in the middle of The Meadows. Matyiko enjoys the farmers market for its variety of vendors selling fresh, organic produce and handmade crafts. "I love it there. I particularly like The Tamale Man, a family-owned operation that's been there for a long time," Matyiko says. Another event located in The Meadows is the Summer Concert Series, which brings live music and movies to the community. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets for seating, as well as some snacks or drinks.
Getting around St. Charles County
Even though Lake St. Louis may feel removed from the outside area, it's still well-connected. Interstates 70 and 64 intersect just west of the neighborhood, making it possible to drive the 40 miles to Downtown St. Louis in just over 40 minutes. Matyiko describes the intersection of these two major highways as The Crossroads of Missouri. "It's the same intersection Johnny Cash sang about," Matyiko says. Those looking to take flights can find St. Louis Lambert International Airport just 24 miles east on Interstate 70. In the case of a medical emergency, St. Joseph Hospital is also right in the neighborhood, just off of Veterans Memorial Parkway.
