A peaceful lakefront community
Lake Spivey has been home to major celebrities ranging from rapper T.I. to Olympic swimmer Steve Lundquist, but the biggest star of the community has always been the lake itself. Located 30 minutes south of downtown Atlanta, this suburban area hosts the largest private lake in Georgia, the 600-acre Lake Spivey. “There are watersports that go on all the time. Tubing, waterskiing, and fishing are all really big here,” says Zach Joiner, a local Realtor with Watkins Real Estate Associates. “It’s a great place for anyone who wants to be on the lake.” Joiner says the proximity to downtown Atlanta and the community's privacy are also appealing to buyers. “A lot of people move here for the seclusion,” Joiner says. “A lot of celebrities have come in the past few years because you’re close to Atlanta, but a lot of people don’t know about it.”

What to expect when house-hunting in Lake Spivey
Those looking to move here will find single-family homes, primarily from the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. They range in styles from brick ranches to sprawling mansions with lake views. Homes reside on large lots — the median lot size is more than half an acre — on quiet residential streets, with plenty of mature trees to provide a sense of privacy. According to Joiner, some people live here seasonally, while others are year-round residents. Prices range from $300,000 for an older non-lakefront home with less than 3,000 square feet all the way up to $2.4 million for an estate four times the size on the water.

Major outdoor amenities just minutes away
The community is home to Clayton County International Park, which hosted the 1996 Olympic beach volleyball tournaments. Residents can play a game of tennis at one of 17 courts, take the pups to the Bark Park, relax beside the six-acre lake, or float down the state’s longest lazy river ride at the water park. The Lake Spivey Golf Club is a convenient spot and a great value for golfers to tee off on the challenging 18-hole course. Of course, Lake Spivey’s namesake lake is the hotspot for entertainment. “When spring and summer come around, that’s when everybody gets excited because they can get out on the water,” Joiner says. “That’s when things get really lively around here.” A total of eight subdivisions and streets in the area have permission to use the lake, each with its own marina or mooring strips for access.
