An established neighborhood with upgraded housing is generating buzz

With activity-filled parks, eclectic dining and shopping, and quick access to Interstate 95, Sunset Ridge is a North Lake Worth Beach neighborhood sparking homebuyer interest. Much of the older housing has been renovated, and newer homes have been popping up in recent years, leading to higher home values. “It’s one of those up-and-coming neighborhoods,” says Ontario Johnson, a Realtor with Petty Capital Realty Inc. who grew up in the area. “Prices have increased compared to areas south of it.” Even as Sunset Ridge becomes more popular, it still has a close-knit feel. “It’s a great place to raise a family,” Johnson says. “It’s an old-school neighborhood where you see kids riding their bikes and people out interacting.”

Sunset Ridge Park, Northwest Park in the neighborhood

“The neighborhood is geared toward people who like to be outdoors because of the big parks,” says Christine Velez, a broker and owner of Higher Standards Real Estate with nearly three decades of experience. Sunset Ridge Park is a focal point for community connection and outdoor recreation. “People rent out the pavilions at the park for parties and events all the time,” says Velez. The city hosts regular events at the park such as free movie nights. And it’s especially popular among pickleball and tennis players. Additional amenities include basketball courts, a multipurpose field and a playground. Northwest Park is a larger green space that’s anchored by several ballfields of varying sizes that host organized youth leagues for baseball and softball competitions. Golfers can hone their game on the 18-hole layout at The Park West Palm, a nearby public course. Other options include The Lake Worth Beach Golf Club along the Intracoastal Waterway and an 18-hole par-3 course on the oceanfront.

Local institutions anchor Dixie Highway commercial corridor

Dixie Highway runs alongside the neighborhood and is lined with all manner of restaurants, bars and stores. There’s Harry’s Banana Farm, a quintessential dive bar that has been open for more than 70 years. Upper Crust bakery is a hometown favorite whose pies and decadent desserts have been recognized by Boca Raton Magazine and the Wall Street Journal. Residents also have access to Latin delicacies at Union Bakery, Guatemalan food at Exquisite Chapin and unique grocery items at British Depot. “One thing about Lake Worth is that a lot of cultures are represented in its food,” Johnson says. “And a lot of that is concentrated right there along Dixie Highway.” Traditional grocery stores Winn-Dixie and Publix are located nearby. Also nearby is Lake Avenue, the center of the city’s downtown business district. The buzzy thoroughfare is populated with boutique stores, bars and restaurants.

Renovations of established homes, newer construction stand out

A colorful collection of homes populates streets lined with palm trees and other greenery. Ranch-style homes dating from the 1950s and other midcentury designs sit on spacious lots and feature either driveways or carports. Prices typically range from the low $300,000s to about $600,000, with renovated homes fetching higher prices. Newer multilevel houses blend muted contemporary designs with decorative Spanish Mediterranean architecture; prices range from the mid-$500,000s to $700,000. Despite the neighborhood’s location close to the water, it’s not at high risk of flooding. However, it is in a high-risk zone for wind damage, and insurance rates may reflect that.

Dixie Highway and I-95 nearby

Several Palm Tran bus stops are located along Dixie Highway on the neighborhood's east side. Interstate 95 flanks the neighborhood’s west side, providing easy access to regional points of interest, including West Palm Beach to the north and Boca Raton to the south. HCA Florida JFK Hospital is about 4 miles from the neighborhood, and Palm Beach International Airport is about 7 miles away. “People like the convenience of the area because you can go to downtown, Lake Worth Beach and all the other amenities,” Velez says, “but you can come home at night to escape all the action and noise.”
