Established golf course community anchors an eclectic neighborhood
The neighborhood of Lone Palm, created by Publix founder George Jenkins in the mid-1960s, is an eclectic exurban destination about 4 miles west of Downtown Lakeland, built around the popular Lone Palm Golf Club. “Jenkins built the golf club so he could have a relaxing place for himself and his friends to hang out, and the community still feels like that now,” says Andrea Muzzy, broker and owner of House of Glass Real Estate and Property Management. While the exclusive golfing community and its housing take up much of Lone Palm’s real estate, the neighborhood has grown over the years to include a collection of amenities-filled 55-plus manufactured home villages where golf carts are the preferred mode of transportation.

Executive homes on the golf course highlight the residential options
Concentrated around the course is the neighborhood’s premier housing, which typically ranges in price from the low $500,000s to the low $800,000s, although a few homes on oversized lots are valued at more than $ 1 million. “Most homebuyers moving to Lone Palm are looking for the executive houses close to the golf course,” says Muzzy, who has sold homes throughout Lakeland. Ranch-style homes with spacious interiors, private driveways and attached garages are prominent, but townhouses starting at $225,000 also are available. “It’s a pretty small community – sort of its own little place --- but with nice, larger homes, so that is the main draw of living in the area,” says Andrew Fearn, a Realtor with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices in Lakeland. Newly constructed smaller homes in the $300,000 range can be found on the neighborhood’s eastern edge. Manufactured homes with screened-in porches, carports and small yards are concentrated on the neighborhood’s west side but can be found throughout Lone Palm. Prices occupy a wide range, from $7,500 for a one-bed, one-bath established home to more than $120,000 for a new two-bed, two-bath home. Featured amenities include community pools and shuffleboard courts. “I think most people want to live in a single-family home because it appreciates faster, but it all comes down to price,” Fearn says.
Larger homes in Lone Palm can fetch property values well over $1 million.

Lone Palm Golf Club is the neighborhood's pride and joy
Winding its way for more than 7,000 yards through the Central Florida landscape, Lone Palm Golf Club has anchored the neighborhood since its beginning. The course clubhouse hums with activity on any given day as residents take on the challenge of the highly rated championship course. Shorter fairways with Bermuda grass provide a challenge for players of all skill levels, who must navigate an array of sand traps, water hazards and palm trees. Members can hone their game on putting and chipping greens. In addition, they have access to on-site dining and rooms available for private functions. Lighted pickleball courts are the club’s newest addition. The 13-court facility, which includes viewing stands, a snack bar and a dedicated pro shop, opened in October 2023. Nearby Bonnet Springs Park, a contemporary jewel of Lakeland recreation, offers an array of outdoor activities among its 168 acres and is home to the Florida Children’s Museum.

Silver Moon Drive-In, Downtown Lakeland are top attractions
A notable neighborhood attraction is the Silver Moon Drive-In Theatre. Open since 1948, it is the only remaining theater of its kind in Polk County has been in operation since 1948. This blast from the past features a retro neon sign on the pastel Art Deco concessions building and offers up double features on a pair of big screens seven nights a week. The drive-in is located on New Tampa Highway, which runs through Lone Palm and leads directly downtown. “Downtown Lakeland has a lot of independent restaurants, and there’s just a lot going on,” Fearn says. Featured stops in the buzzy dining district include Harry’s Seafood Bar & Grille and Mojo Federal Swine & Spirits, a contemporary barbecue restaurant. First Friday is a popular themed event downtown that attracts thousands to Munn Park each month. It features arts and crafts vendors and extended shopping hours, and the highlight is a classic car show. The Wabash Avenue corridor on the neighborhood’s east side offers a pair of conveniently located grocery stores, a collection of ethnic eateries highlighted by Costilla Grill Mexican Restaurant and Pat’s Tavern, a popular local bar. Just north of the neighborhood is Mi Pueblo Flea Market, where, for more than 40 years, vendors have filled colorful stalls each weekend, selling everything from fresh fruit to livestock.
The Silver Moon Drive-In is only one of four drive-in theaters in Florida.

Proximity to I-4 provides convenient travel to Tampa, Orlando
Bus stops are found all along New Tampa Highway, providing convenient access to public transportation throughout the city. The nearby interstate provides direct access to travel throughout the region. “The I-4 junction is about a quarter mile away,” Fearn says, “and that’s good for people who work in Tampa or Orlando.” Tampa and its international airport are 30 miles west, and Orlando is a little more than 50 miles northeast. Lakeland Linder International Airport, located about 5 miles south of the neighborhood, will soon offer limited commercial service.
