Between the shores of southern Lake Elsinore and the edge of Cleveland National Forest sits Lakeland Village. Buyers come to this unincorporated Riverside County community for the space. “I live in the country,” says Tim Suber, Realtor with Coldwell Banker Realty and longtime resident. “I sit out at night and watch shooting stars and satellites go by. I get serenaded by coyotes. Every day is an adventure of what you’ll find in your yard, from mountain lions to coyotes to turkey vultures. It’s very peaceful here.”
Lake Elsinore, Cleveland National Forest and nearby parks
Lakeland Village borders Lake Elsinore, putting residents within walking distance of water recreation like swimming and boating. Perret Park is a popular place to spend time on the shore. Hikers can explore local trails in the canyons surrounding the community. Cleveland National Forest borders Lakeland Village. Hundreds of thousands of visitors explore the national forest each year on foot, bike or horse. The neighboring city of Lake Elsinore offers 20 parks spread over hundreds of acres.
A variety of homes in Lakeland Village
Lakeland Village is a more affordable alternative to Lake Elsinore proper and nearby Orange County. Single-family homes in the community sell for a median of $500,000, while comparable nearby areas sell for $100,000 or more over the Lakeland Village median. “One of the best features is the variety of homes,” Suber says. “If you’re in Orange County, you’re in a townhouse or a cookie-cutter home. Out here, you can get acres and your choice of house style. A lot of people here have horses or keep chickens or grow fruit trees.”
Lakeland Village has a high fire risk, in part because of the convergence of two inland air streams. “The wind pattern is very unique, so it’s a great place for paragliding and parasailing,” Suber says. “But that also creates a fire risk. There is a risk of fire, but you trade 3 months of heat for 9 months of paradise.”
An hour from Capistrano Beach and an hour from skiing
Residents will need a car to get around, as there is nothing on the way to public transit. “If I drive an hour in one direction, I can be at the beach. If I drive an hour in another direction, you can go play in the snow. It’s a good, central location,” Suber says. State Route 74 runs through the city, leading 35 miles south to Capistrano Beach. Irvine, a major employment hub, is 50 miles west.
Restaurants on the water and retail in Lake Elsinore
There are a few restaurants on Grand Avenue near the lake, with options including Mexican restaurants and a sushi spot. O’Hara’s Rock and Roll Tavern is a restaurant and bar that also offers live music. There are a couple of convenience stores on Lakeland Village’s side of the lake. However, for more extensive dining options or for major shopping, locals head into the city of Lake Elsinore. “If you like hustle and bustle and nightlife and excitement, this is not your place,” Suber says.
Dia De Los Muerto Celebration and other events
Many Lakeland Village residents take advantage of the events happening in Lake Elsinore, such as boating and fishing contests. The Annual Dia De Los Muerto Celebration each fall and the Annual Winterfest are popular events.
