Suburban Neighborhood in Maryland
Prince George's County 20784
The town of Landover Hills is a quiet community in Prince George’s County, Maryland. Featuring over 150 acres of rolling hills, mature trees and ample quiet spaces, “This town was first built in 1943 and 1944 during the housing boom and World War II. We were one of the first suburban areas of Washington DC and we later incorporated in 1945,” explains Jeffrey Schomisch, mayor for the town of Landover Hills.
Comprised of nearly 500 residences, much of the homes follow the same layout due to the war-time construction. “There were basically two models, the two-story colonial and the Cape Cod,” adds Schomisch. But many have been updated or renovated since their early conception, “Everyone has changed or added an addition, a porch, finished a basement.” Despite this, the area has maintained its charm and the average sales here is $400,000 with price points varying depending on the age, size and condition of the property.
Students here attend Prince George’s County Public Schools like Cooper Lane Elementary School, Charles Carroll Middle and Parkdale High School. A public magnet school serving nearly 2500 students in grades 9 through 12, Parkdale received an overall ranking of ‘C’ from Niche. For those looking for alternative options, private institutions like the New Hope Academy (grades 9 through 12) and St Mary's Catholic School (prekindergarten through eighth) are also abundant in this community.
For all your daily essentials you can find everything you need and more off of Annapolis Road. Head north and you’ll find the Glendridge Shopping Center, which features a Giant Food supermarket, and plenty of casual eateries ranging from Hip Hop Fish and Chicken to China Fong’s Chinese carryout, and Jollof Etcetera’s West African cuisine. The Capital Plaza shopping mall features big box retailers like Walmart and a Grand Mart International Food market, as well as casual eateries like Chick-Fil-A and McDonalds.
For some time outdoors, the Landover Hills Neighborhood Park features a playground, open green spaces and plenty of woodlands too. “We have a pretty mature tree cover, lots of trees because this used to be farmland before it was a subdivision,” adds Schomisch. “We ’re a stable community, and it evolves in waves. Since I’ve been here, nearly 30 years, there have been young families that grow and then the parents get old and leave, and then the next generation moves in and it's interesting to see how it changes,” says Schomisch.
Another perk of living in Landover Hills? You’re located only one mile from the New Carrollton Metro Station (Orange Line) and the MARC station, just minutes from US Route 50 and the Baltimore-Washington Parkway too. The public transit is a huge draw and affords you a suburban lifestyle with proximity to DC and its many employers. Plus with the up and coming purple line of the Metro being built in the same vicinity, this will add a boost to the community and surrounding areas too.
Welcome to the town of Landover Hills, a quiet community of Prince George’s County.
