Comfort and ease are two words often affiliated with Summerfield, Maryland, a neighborhood just nine miles outside of Washington D.C. Located just east of the city and in the shadows of the Washington Commander’s FedEx Field, Summerfield has plenty of action in a small area. “Convenience is key,” says Fairfax Realty Elite agent Andrea Jenkins. “Folks commute into the big cities for work and entertainment and are drawn to the quick access to the beltway and the metro.” With a variety of home styles, the satisfaction of one-stop shopping and an array of outdoor activities anyone can find what they are looking for in Summerfield. With NFL games and large concerts, locals are sure to deal with noise and traffic on event days.

Home styles in the neighborhood vary from tri-levels to townhomes to ornate gothics. But as Jenkins says, “It doesn’t really matter the style, inventory is short and homes in this area go quickly.” Prices range from the mid $300,000 to $400,000 for older ranch-style homes to the $600,000 territory for newer townhomes and multi-level single-family units. You won’t need to search for a parking spot as most of the brick or vinyl-sided homes in Summerfield have driveways or multi-car garages. The well-manicured lawns and tall trees lend a notion of nature to the area and many of the streets end in cul-de-sacs providing a quiet escape from the traffic associated with the Capital Beltway. The large yards are great for a barbecue and the flat sidewalks provide a nice route to stroll with a pet.

For even more outdoor options, head to Summerfield Park, a 35-acre recreation area that provides playground equipment and hiking trails. Let your pet run free at the dog park or grab a paddle and enjoy the pickleball courts. Picnic tables and basketball hoops are available, as are community grills and multi-sport fields. To the north sits Prince George’s Sports and Learning Complex, featuring a competition and leisure pool as well as an indoor and outdoor track. The facility also offers swim lessons and gymnastics lessons for children.

A part of Prince George’s County School District, education begins at Cora L. Rice Elementary School where students can access myON a digital library with over 7,000 books. From there students attend G. James Gholson Middle School where fifth graders recently partnered with the Smithsonian Science Education Center to study water conservation techniques. Local high school Fairmont Heights opened a new $80 million building in 2017. For students looking to express an artistic side, Thomas G. Pullen K-8 Creative and Performing Arts Academy has a B rating on Niche and offers instruction on music, dance, visual arts, drama and media production.

Locals flock to Caribbean Grill for authentic Jamaican jerk and curried meats and seafood. Be sure to check out the jerk barbecue wings with a rice and cabbage side. For dessert look no further than Mouth Full of Crumbs. With over 12 cake flavors and countless icing and buttercream combinations, Mouth Full of Crumbs can satisfy any sweet tooth. On the southern end of Summerfield is Largo Town Center, offering restaurants such as Golden Bowl and In a Minute Café. Just north of the neighborhood lies Woodmore Towne Centre which features 19 restaurants including a variety of chains like Ledo Pizza & and is the place for shoppers to grab groceries at Wegmans or stock up at Costco. For more

For more entertainment options hop on the Beltway and be in D.C. or Baltimore in minutes. With all the action close by it's no secret Summerfield is the place to be.
