A charming coastal town with proximity to Fort Lauderdale
About 30 miles north of Fort Lauderdale sits Lantana, a small Palm Beach County town with an eclectic history. In the 1970s and '80s, it served as the home to the world’s largest Christmas tree, purchased by the owner of the National Enquirer, who moved his popular tabloid newspaper from New Jersey to Lantana in 1971. Every year’s tree, which ended up being over 100 feet tall, could be seen for miles and drew countless visitors to Lantana annually. Despite its brush with global fame, Lantana has remained a quiet beach town that is home to about 12,000 people today. Its residents enjoy proximity to Fort Lauderdale and Miami with lower home prices and a less crowded feel than those cities.

Homes are a mix of modest ranch-style and $1 million estates
Lantana’s neighborhoods are filled with midcentury-era ranch-style and bungalow homes, some painted in pastels. They sit on small, manicured lawns, often with in-ground backyard pools. Across the bridge along East Ocean Avenue, the homes on Hypoluxo Island are often larger, sitting on bigger lawns surrounded by tall palm trees, and are priced at $1 million or more. However, the median price for single-family homes is about $455,000, lower than that of neighboring Fort Lauderdale. Townhouses are also available, with a median price of about $390,000.
