Del Mar Boulevard cutting through the neighborhood

Located in the approximate middle of Laredo, the neighborhood of Del Mar Hills is made up of three distinct areas: A, B and C. “Del Mar A and B are more starter homes,” says Martha Wright-Martinez, associate broker with Coldwell Banker Ana Ochoa, who has been a broker since 1986 and a life-long Laredoan. “Del Mar C has larger, more expensive homes.” Divided by East Del Mar Boulevard, A and B are to the north of the boulevard with C to the south. There are some commercial businesses within Del Mar Hills, but the majority is residential along with several schools. United Middle School, Trautmann Elementary and Middle School all sit within the boundaries of Del Mar Hills, with Nye Elementary just outside the neighborhood to the west. The administration center for the City of Laredo Fire Department is located in the middle for the neighborhood.

Smaller starters to the north of Del Mar Boulevard

The most common home styles throughout the three sections are ranch-style, Spanish-style and New Traditional. Del Mar A and B have prices ranging from $200,000 to $400,000, with a few rare exceptions selling for about $560,000. These homes are closer together and have backyard pools scattered throughout. Carports and two-car garages are common sights, with a little bit of street parking occurring. In Del Mar C, properties start to have larger front and backyards, with prices ranging from $325,000 up to $785,000. Lower prices tend to be townhomes. These homes have more room between them and have more individual trees on the property. Pools are more common in Area C, and carports mostly disappear in favor of attached garages. Homes often have a curved driveway in front of the home, usually leading to the garage. Within Area C, sidewalks are scattered throughout but are not consistently on every street.

Plantation Centre has chain restaurants and groceries at H-E-B. Across from Plantation Centre are some locally owned restaurants, including Tensai, which sells sushi, and Border Foundry Restaurant and Bar, which sells ribeye and duck. “Border Foundry is popular with young professionals,” Wright-Martinez says. Along Del Mar Boulevard is Caffe Dolce North, with indoor and outdoor seating options. Mall del Norte is about 2 miles southwest and has over 100 commercial and clothing stores. North Creek Plaza has an Old Navy, Marshalls and Target and is less than a mile west, just off Interstate 35.
