Eight blocks of homes next to the interstate

Sandwiched between Interstate 35 and the Zacate Creek, the neighborhood of Sal Si Puedes consists of eight blocks with a mixture of homes and local stores just 2 miles from downtown Laredo. When residents move to the city, they are often opening a business. “There’s a plethora of jobs here,” says Maria Calderón-Porter, a life-long resident of Laredo. “When it comes to the dramatic pace of consumerism, the support is there.” Stores and restaurants are scattered throughout Sal Si Puedes and Laredo as a whole. With only six blocks of houses, Sal Si Puedes has a small-town feel. “We are rapidly growing into a big city, but we still have a small city’s friendliness,” Calderón-Porter says. Its central location also features with other necessities. Laredo Medical Center is 2 miles east along East Saunders Street and Laredo International Airport is almost 5 miles east.

Ranch homes on smaller properties close to downtown

Ranch homes built mostly in the 1960s are the most-common style, with prices ranging from $110,000 to $250,000. A few Spanish Colonials are present, ranging from $240,000 to $330,000. Trees offer cover for backyards and occasionally the homes themselves, helping to shade from the Texas heat. “Everything here has air conditioning,” says Calderón-Porter. “Homes built from 1960s to now for sure.” A few homes have pools, but residents can use the city's public pools. Most properties are smaller and sit close to the roads, so vehicles may have a small driveway or carport. Otherwise, vehicles can be parked on the street. There are no sidewalks within the neighborhood. Homes may also have privacy fences around the entire property.

Local stores and restaurants with two H-E-B’s nearby
