Princeton access without Princeton traffic

Princeton West may not itself be home to the renowned Princeton University, but this neighborhood is one of Princeton’s most desirable communities due to its elegant houses, its rich history, and its access to some of Princeton’s most scenic parks. "The area is just lovely," says Anna Shulkina, real estate agent with RE/MAX of Princeton and longtime resident of the area. "From its lush greenery to the homes’ strong connection to the outdoors, it really has such a nice blend of urban and suburban."

Classic styles like Colonials on large lawns

Princeton West’s homes are themselves a sight to behold, each designed with care and creativity - from massive contemporary-style homes to historic Tudor mansions and Colonial residences. Prices range from $450,000 to $2 million, though certain larger estate homes can go for over $3 million. Princeton West residents tend to live along tree-shaded streets with vast front lawns, their homes tucked into lush nature for a spacious, arcadian feel. These side streets branch off of major roads such as Rosedale and Province Line Roads, which connect them with Downtown Princeton and the rest of the town

Beautiful nature surrounding vintage architecture

Nature lovers will be spoiled for choice with the wealth of parkland in this community. The Institute Woods, preserved since 1997, includes 589 acres of woodland, wetlands, and historic farmland, with walking trails and even a footbridge allowing for visitors to explore the lush nature on the banks of Stony Brook. Within this park, the Charles H. Rogers Wildlife Refuge is home to birds such as wrens and orioles and wildlife such as raccoons, beavers, and deer, and keen photographers will find plenty of opportunities to snap photos of animals in this peaceful, natural habitat. In the northern part of the neighborhood, the Greenway Meadows Park is another parcel of reclaimed nature, with soccer fields and poetry displays in addition to hills popular for sledders during the winter. At the northernmost tip of Princeton West, the Woodfield Reservation includes 100 acres of forested trails and a waterfall. History buffs will live just around the corner from the Princeton Battlefield State Park, located just north of the Institute Woods.

Learn about the area before grabbing a bite

One of Princeton West’s most unique features is the presence of Drumthwacket, a mansion built in 1835 and currently serving as the official residence of the Governor of New Jersey. This building, located just blocks away from the former executive mansion of Morven at the heart of Princeton, offers guided tours, and visitors can explore the Georgian-themed interior and the estate’s gardens for an up-close look at this neoclassical-colonial mansion. Those looking for shopping and dining options can head to nearby Princeton Shopping Center, which features McCaffrey's Food Market for groceries and the Bagel Nook - a local favorite offering up bagels, donuts, and sandwiches.
