Active Lexington neighborhood with some modern creativity
A stately house with a Greek-style porch stands out among the many blocks of smaller brick and vinyl properties in the McConnell’s Trace neighborhood. Sitting on nearly 2 acres, the Lewis Manor is an 1800 rebuild of the post-Revolutionary War era home that originally belonged to a local colonel and influential statesman in Kentucky’s early years. A historic manor home, this community landmark sets the tone for this neighborhood. “It seems like some of the builders that went in there, they wanted to build a home with just a few extra bells and whistles,” says Norm Biller, principal broker with Biller Homes. “That’s a neighborhood where some of the builders were a little more artistic.” Adding to the community's appeal is its proximity to outdoor recreation options, like the adjacent Masterson Station Park, which many in the city visit for various equestrian activities. McConnell’s Trace is also convenient for joggers and bikers as the Town Branch Trail borders the entire neighborhood.

21st century Traditionals and Craftsmen
Most houses in McConnell's Trace were built between the early 2000s and the present day, and mainly consist of contemporary Traditional and Craftsman designs with two-car garages. Many homes here also have new or refinished hardwood floors and distinct flourishes like half-hipped and saltbox-style roofs. While many houses here sit close to one another on lots no larger than a quarter of an acre in size, several properties border extended green spaces that provide extra room for activities. Streets ending in cul-de-sacs also allow residents to set up basketball hoops for weekend games. “There are a lot of people with dogs and kids in that neighborhood,” Biller says. The neighborhood also features a townhouse community with amenities like a pool and splash pad. Most single-family homes here have footprints no larger than 2,000 square feet and run between $200,000 and $340,000.

On the doorsteps of major Lexington park and equestrian destination
Masterson Station Park puts the neighborhood at the doorsteps of one of Lexington’s largest green spaces. “It’s got a lot of activities. Mostly soccer with kids. A lot of events and festivals. It’s a big, wide-open park,” says Roger Browning, broker/owner at Four Seasons Realty. The park covers over 650 acres and has a mix of rolling pastures and trails for horseback riding lessons. Other amenities include a playground and a splash pad that’s popular among local children. The park also occasionally brings in temporary attractions like petting zoos. Residents can also walk, jog or bike to the park via the Town Branch Trail, a roughly 2-mile path that follows the winding creek of the same name and wraps around McConnell’s Trace. Nearby, an indoor multi-sport complex, the Yard has batting cages and both basketball and volleyball courts, which are interchangeably used for roller derby.

Ramsey’s and The Service Statin’s garage-themed cocktails
The neighborhood is close to establishments like the Lexington area institution Ramsey’s Diner, which recently opened its fourth location in nearby Masterson Station. Ramsey is popular for its comfort food options, and its menu ranges from traditional American breakfasts to entrees like country fried pork chops. GrassToGrace serves African-style cuisine, and several of its dishes come with cassava, flavored rice and plantains. Opened in 2019, The Service Station is a trendy late-night hangout and neighborhood watering hole. A former Texaco station, the bar honors the venue’s past through the art on its walls and cocktails with names like the High Octane and Flat Tire. The bar also has an outdoor patio complete with picnic-style tables and a canopy. Kroger on Leestown Road is the nearest grocery store option.
The Station is a popular 21 and over club in McConnells Trace.
