Located in the world's horse capital, Marion County, Liberty is a leafy suburban community less than 11 miles south of downtown Ocala. The established community provides spacious homes on large lots with a variety of amenities and attractions at hand, from golf to horse shows. "This area is just outside of Ocala, so it's a very convenient and peaceful location," says Realtor Elady Fonseca of Great Expectations Realty. Liberty features a wide breadth of housing

Liberty has a range of house styles, from traditional stucco homes with hipped roofs on lawns accented with cabbage palms and blossoming magnolias to ranch-style homes with U-shaped designs and two-car garages. Buyers will also find ample Millennial models with Craftsman features. Additional housing options include New Traditional homes with Spanish stylings and New Traditional homes with Craftsman-inspired designs on spacious lawns. Most single-family homes range from $215,000 to $375,000, but some new construction and houses on large acreages cost between $400,000 and $650,000. Some homes in larger equestrian estates start around $1.8 million and can go as high as $6.5 million.

Students attend Marion County Schools

Kids growing up in the area attend Marion County Public Schools, which earned an overall B on Niche. Students kickstart their education at Hammett Bowen Junior Elementary School, which has a student-to-teacher ratio of 17-to-1 and a B on Niche. Students progress to Liberty Middle School, which has a B-minus on Niche. Students head to West Port High School to earn their diplomas. The school hosts the Marion County Center for the Arts, the only visual and performing arts magnet program in Marion County, as well as the Biomedical Science program, the Global Logistics program and the Early College program. Niche gave the high school an overall A-minus on Niche.

A day at Liberty Community Park

At the pine-shaded Liberty Community Park, kids can climb on either of the two playgrounds or kick a ball around the open field. Bikers, joggers, and casual strollers enjoy the park's paved trail. Locals often reserve the pavilion for birthday parties or various other celebrations. The park is also equipped with public restrooms. Golfers can tee off at the semi-private Royal Oaks Golf Club, which belongs to the 55+ Oak Run community. And hosting the Ocala Open every spring, nearby Candler Hills Golf Club offers various rates to the public. The Florida Horse Park is one of Central Florida's premier equestrian recreation venues. Spanning over 500 acres, the facility hosts equestrian events, such as dressage competitions, horse trials and polo matches.

Most shopping is concentrated along State Road 200, including big-box stores like Walmart, Publix and Aldi. A second Publix is centrally located within Liberty, so grabbing everyday essentials during the week is convenient. Early birds stop by Mama B's Diner, serving classic Southern breakfast fixings such as biscuits and gravy. If it's later in the day, locals chow down on a burger or grilled cheese.
