Limerick is a small community dating back to the 1800s
The town of Limerick is a close community that holds its history dear. “We’re a small town, under 3,000 people,” says Cindy Smith, director of the Limerick Public Library and longtime resident. The town features several locally owned restaurants, including The Peppermill Restaurant. The Limerick Historical Society maintains and shares the town’s history, dating back to the 1800s. This includes fundraising to restore historic buildings, such as the bandstand that sits on Main Street. “It’s a very unique structure, and we’re very proud of it,” says Neal Meltzer, a longtime resident who helped restore the bandstand. Students attend Regional School Unit 57, which receives a C-minus from Niche.

Locally owned restaurants along Main Street
Limerick’s Main Street may be filled with businesses, but one feature stands out. The town’s historic bandstand was built in the 1800s and was once home to boxing matches, concerts and town events. “It’s really the candle on top of Main Street,” Meltzer says. Local shops include Wright Chocolate House, which serves handmade chocolate from October to May of every year and the smaller grocery store Limerick Village Variety. Town Hill Grille is just a block away, blending casual and culinary dishes. Another popular dining option is The Peppermill Restaurant, which offers views of Sokokis Lake. “I know they do Friday night karaoke, and they sometimes have live music,” Smith says. Residents can get groceries from Limerick Supermarket or pick their produce at Libby & Son U-Picks, which has a selection of ready-to-pick fruit, including apples and blueberries. Target, Walmart and Lowe’s are all about 24 miles away.

Older homes and new ranch styles
Towards the middle of the town, Colonial and Federal-style homes sit at the front of large properties dating back to the 1800s. The grassy lawns are decorated with bushes and gardens, and long driveways lead to detached garages. As they move farther out, residents live on acres of land among a dense collection of trees, with gravel driveways that lead to Cape Cods and farmhouses built between the early and mid-20th century, with some ranch styles built as recently as 2023. Prices for a single-family home typically fall between $300,000 and $525,000.

Sokokis Lake provides boating, swimming and fishing
Many people come to Limerick for their lakes, with Lake Arrowhead, Pickerel Pond and Sokokis Lake in town. “Our population grows in the summer,” Smith says. People can fish, boat and swim on Sokokis Lake. Scout’s Island is the town’s only public beach, where locals can sunbathe when not in the water. Locals can drive up to Sokokis Lookout for views of the water and the town’s rolling hills and can hike at Sawyer Mountain, which features about 8 miles of trails. The Limerick Public Library hosts several programs throughout the year, from author talks to Artist of the Month, where local artists and collectors can showcase their work. “One lady had a collection of mini lighthouses,” Smith says. Other displays have included barn quilts and textile arts.

Christmas lights and Touch-A-Truck among Limerick events
The town hosts several community events, such as Christmas in Limerick, which includes the Tree Lighting at the Free Baptist Church. Another popular event is Touch-A-Truck. “You have a bunch of trucks, and the kids like to climb on them and honk their horns,” Smith says. Firetrucks, ambulances and garbage trucks are displayed for children to explore, and vendors set up craft and food booths.

Limerick is the cutest little town, with local businesses on each street, a small village where everyone knows everyone, and the scenery is gorgeous all year round because of the changing leaves, flowers, and beautiful snowfall.

Limerick is very small so it does not have it's own police so when an emergency does occur, it takes some time for help to respond.
