Pastoral views, suburban assets and recently built homes define Village Gardens
Village Gardens is a 21st-century suburban community that illustrates the appeal of South Lincoln for young families. While the neighborhood is 9 miles south of Downtown Lincoln, gentle hills surround the landscape, creating rolling vistas toward nearby farmland.
Village Gardens offers 1,000 homes in its setting between Pine Lake Road to the north and Yankee Hill Road to the south. Wysong Elementary — in the middle of the neighborhood and adjacent to a playground — along with parks, ponds, creeks, a few Little Libraries, and an emerging 2-mile bike trail testify to the community's values of education, outdoor engagement and preservation.
According to Saul Bakewell, a Realtor with Nebraska Realty for more than 10 years and a lifelong South Lincoln resident, “Homes in Village Gardens don’t go on the market often, but when they do, they generally sell within about 20 days. This area is super popular with young families. They want newer homes, good schools and plenty of nearby amenities. They’ll find all that here. Residents who live here tend to put down roots and stay put.”

Little climbers and serious cyclists welcome outdoor amenities
Village Meadows Park is a 2-acre park next to Wysong Elementary. It offers a playground, picnic tables, benches and picnic shelters. Thanks to the shared space with the school, it appears larger than just 2 acres. It’s ideal for children from 2 to 5 years of age; the swing set also has two baby swings. As a new park, trees have yet to grow into shade producers, though park pavilions offer respite from the sun.
Thompson Creek Park is a neighborhood park at the corner of Upton Grey Lane and Thompson Creek Boulevard. It offers plenty of shade, four swings and climbing apparatus with slides and ladders. While it doesn’t have a creek, two ponds are within walking distance on either side of Thompson Creek Boulevard.
The northeast corner of Village Gardens is undeveloped. Beal Slough, a natural waterway that helps drain rain runoff into nearby Salt Creek, is protected because of its environmental value. In July 2024, Lincoln City Parks and Recreation officials approved the decision to develop a much-anticipated hiking and biking trail along Beal Slough. It is expected to open in 2027.
Village Meadows Park has a small playground for the kids.
