A hard-to-beat lakefront location offers homes that are easy on the eyes
Wedgewood Manor is a rare Lincoln neighborhood that offers a mix of midsized homes, a peaceful lakefront setting and a location between two highly ranked public schools. Hillcrest Country Club is its neighbor to the east, and Trendwood Park is immediately south. “Wedgewood Manor is known for what’s inside or immediately outside the neighborhood,” says Shontelle Gillespie, a Realtor with RE/MAX Concepts for more than 10 years. “Wedgewood Lake is the heart of the neighborhood. Homes are a bit larger and a bit newer than in other East Lincoln neighborhoods, and for the most part, they’re well-maintained, so, they will often sell within a week.” About 40 homes front the lake while more have clear views of the water.
Top-rated Pyrtle Elementary and Lincoln East High are essentially inside the neighborhood. Downtown Lincoln is just 5 miles away, while shopping, dining and St. Elizabeth's Regional Medical Center are less than a mile away. “Clients are often surprised to find lakefront homes so close to downtown. It’s hard to beat that once they find a home they like,” adds Gillespie.

Wedgewood Lake offers fishing and boating
Though there are no parks in Wedgewood Manor, members of the neighborhood's homeowners association can fish at Wedgewood Lake or simply take in the view. Gillespie said that membership in the HOA is required when purchasing a home in the neighborhood. The small lake sits in the middle of the neighborhood but does not allow motorized boats. There are few docks; small boathouses cover most watercraft. Says Gillespie, “The lake is stocked, which residents enjoy. They consider this their private lake. As I tell potential buyers about Wedgewood Lake, ‘You can’t have it unless you live on it!’ ”
The Mopac Trail, a 26-mile path for bicyclists, horseback riders and walkers, runs through the northeast edge of the neighborhood.
The closest city park is at the southeast edge of the neighborhood. Seacrest Field is a community park and football stadium that hosts varsity football games for Lincoln public high schools. In 2015, and at a cost of $5 million, the stadium and press box were expanded, parking lots resurfaced, new bleachers added and a digital scoreboard was installed.
