Woods Park's older homes draw interest
“Old-home lovers can get very lucky in Lincoln,” says Ashley Hustad, an agent with BancWise Realty. “Woods Park is an ideal neighborhood for old-home fans and home improvers. Well-renovated homes generally sell quickly here, because buyers know what hard work has gone into them. Then there are buyers waiting for just the right home to tackle themselves. They are some of the happiest clients ever when they find it.”
Two city parks anchor the neighborhood, each offering their own amenities and each filled with shade trees: Woods Park to the northeast and Neighbors Park to the southwest. Woods Park neighborhood is just east of the state capitol building, and buyers will find plenty of early 1900s cottages and bungalows, as well as small ranch-style homes and renovated Foursquare homes. Hustad, a Lincoln real estate agent for more than 25 years, adds, “The other reason that buyers are drawn to Woods Park is that it’s very friendly to outdoor athletes. Streets all have sidewalks, people ride bikes, and it’s easy to hop on nearby bike trails.”

Parks anchor the north and south ends of Woods Park
Outdoor sculptures and recently installed circuit-training equipment for adults are among the highlights of Woods Park. Biking trails, picnic shelters, a playground, a swimming pool and tennis courts are also spread across the park's 50 acres. “One of the biggest attractions in Woods Park has to be Woods Memorial Pool,'' Hustad said. "It is a historic, Olympic-sized swimming pool that features original diving platforms. It’s well preserved but also well-updated with splash pads, slides and modern diving boards.”
The Lincoln Children’s Zoo is just outside the neighborhood on the west side of Capitol Parkway and is adjacent to Neighbor’s Park, another Lincoln city park, which is linked by a sidewalk and a crosswalk with a traffic signal. Families with kids walk and bike to the zoo. During the holidays and summer, the Zoo offers mini and monthlong camps. Neighbors Park offers a playfield and a playground with swings, benches and climbing structures.
