Wooded, gated community with a passion for tennis
Otter Creek is working to produce the next Serena Williams. Developed in 1973 with the idea of becoming Little Rock’s tennis hotspot, this quiet community now thrives on serving its residents with privatized opportunities for sports of all kinds. Today, the neighborhood has nearly 1,100 homes and more than 30% of the residents have lived there for 10 years. “It’s gated, really wooded and established, and there’s so much to do,” says Christy Robinson, a Realtor with Keller Williams Realty who has been in the market for 13 years. “It’s also close to the interstate so that you can get to Downtown Little Rock in 10 to 15 minutes.
Living in a gated community
Set far west of the city center, Otter Creek exudes a secluded, rural feel, teeming with loblolly pine tree-guarded streetscapes. Home inventory includes traditional ranch-style homes, Tudor Revivals and Craftsman-style homes. Primarily built in the 1970s and ’80s, these houses typically come with homeowner’s association fees and back decks overlooking spacious, fully fenced yards. Buyers can expect a four-bedroom ranch-style for $270,000, while a three-bedroom Tudor Revival will go for $330,000. “It’s a huge neighborhood that you can still get into for a moderately affordable price, and that’s a huge draw,” Robinson says.

Get on the court
This neighborhood was designed to keep families busy during after-school hours. Remember, tennis is king here. Eleven hard courts are available, and the community hosts a handful of popular tournaments annually, such as the Junior Championships Memorial Day Weekend Tournament. But Otter Creek offers a bevy of other resident-only amenities, too, including a beach volleyball court, more than 6 miles of hiking and biking trails, an always-open fitness center and three pools: one for laps, one for recreation and one for younger children. Even more options await at its public namesake park, including a hunter-green playset with cherry-red slides, concrete basketball courts, four soccer fields, and a pond beckoning anglers.

Member-Only Events
Living in a gated community offers many planned neighborhood events, and the Otter Creek Homeowners Association puts on a slew throughout the year. While the tennis tournaments are obviously popular amongst the greater area, some neighborhood-focused events include Food Truck nights, holiday decorating contests, and the annual Turkey Bingo, where winners take home turkeys and pies.
Gateway Town Center shopping and restaurants on Stagecoach Road
Residents can pick up weekly groceries and household goods outside the gates from Edwards Food Giant. Otter Creek provides easy access to Gateway Town Center, an entertainment destination with a Bass Pro Shop and the Outlets of Little Rock. Locals find retail therapy at more than 50 shops – mostly familiar chains like Nike, Claire’s and Gap, but also eclectic storefronts, like spice specialist Pepper Palace. Stagecoach Road is a major thoroughfare and offers multiple restaurants, including La Tapatia, which offers authentic Mexican cuisine, and China Wok, a popular spot for Chinese takeout.

Rock Region Transit and nearby interstates
The city operates the Rock Region Transit, and while there are no bus stops within the gates, there is a nearby option. Those needing public transportation can hop aboard Route 22 University/Mabelvale at the Walmart on Baseline Road. Drivers have proximity to Interstate 30, which runs into downtown Texas, and Interstate 430, which connects I-30 to I-40, bypassing the city.

I see a lot of great possible changes in the future here. I am not sure if I would live here in the future based on the track of my life, but I am not closed off to the possibility of it. This area is great for anyone who enjoys quiet areas that are close to everything they might need.

Little Rock does have a high crime rate. Despite this it is safe when you know where to go, and there is no general fear of crime.
