Semi-urban community along the Arkansas River
Along the Arkansas River and just 2 miles north of downtown Little Rock, Riverdale is an urban area compared to its nearest neighbors, the Heights and Hillcrest. "It's a mix of residential, commercial, and almost industrial-type spaces. It's a little more modern than those communities," says broker Ray Ellen of Pixel Properties, who sold homes in Little Rock for 17 years. As urban as Riverdale is, it's still well-connected to diverse recreation through the Arkansas River Trail, which passes through the heart of the neighborhood. The trail's branches lead to golf courses, playgrounds, fishing areas and boat launches for days out on the river. It also connects locals to restaurants unique to the Riverdale area. Corina Jordan, a Realtor with seven years of experience who sells homes with Keller Williams Realty-Little Rock, says the unique housing market is another draw to the area. "It's so diverse there you can literally be at any price point depending on what you want."

Riverdale offers an eclectic mix of residential options
Riverdale's condos, townhouses, single-family homes and apartment complexes wrap around business and shopping corridors. Most townhouses feature angular designs and earth-toned paneling, while condos are tall and boxy. Single-family homes range from ranch styles to cottages to custom builds. Lilac and Magnolia Terrace have some of the most modestly sized and priced single-family homes, ranging from the upper $100,000 to $200,000s. Alternatively, homes along Sherrill Road are larger and steps away from the largest area park, ranging from the $400,000s to over $1 million. Condos and townhouses tend to price from the high $200,000s to $700,000s unless they are on the water; then, they can skyrocket to over $1 million. There are a few gated communities on the river — including Canal Point, with luxury homes ranging from the high $600,000s to over $1 million. Riverdale has been affected by flooding and flash flooding over the past several years.

Faded Rose serves Creole comfort foods in Riverdale
Riverdale is home to an array of local and regional restaurants. "There's one called Faded Rose, which is classic. It's been around a long time," Ellen says. The eatery, founded by a New Orleans native in the early '80s, sells Creole comfort foods, including gumbo, red beans and rice, and po'boys. The Fold: Botanas and Bar serves twists on Mexican classics — from bison burritos to kale and mushroom taquitos — out of a converted gas station from the 1960s. Wright's Barbecue is a familiar Arkansas chain specializing in smoked ribs and pulled pork sandwiches. Whole Hog Cafe and Eat My Catfish whip up more Southern classics in the Riverdale Center, a shopping strip with a Dollar Tree, Club Fit and the Riverdale 10 VIP Cinema. Residents head into the Heights and Hillcrest areas for the local boutiques and to grab groceries from Kroger.

Murray Park has a new special needs playground
"You're directly connected to the Arkansas River Trail that encompasses central Arkansas," Jordan says. "Wherever you're living, you're going to have a river trail access point." The trail flows north toward the largest green space, Rebsamen Park, which hosts tennis courts and the municipal golf course. Rebsamen Park flows into Murray Park, which has a public boat ramp, sand volleyball court and dog park filled with obstacle courses. "We just recently updated the park and added a playground for special needs kids," Jordan says. She adds that Allsopp Park, next door in Hillcrest, is extremely popular for its baseball field and web of trails passing along streams. The Country Club at Little Rock is nearby in the Heights for those who want a private golf course experience accompanied by luxury amenities, including a resort-sized pool.

It's easy to get around on foot in Riverdale
Riverdale is highly walkable and bikeable thanks to the Arkansas River Trails, which Jordan says span over 20 miles and connects locals to the broader Little Rock region. Riverfront Drive — the neighborhood’s main thoroughfare — flows south to U.S. Route 10 and Interstate 630. UAMS Medical Center is within 2 miles, and Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport is around 10 miles southeast.
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
