About Lodi, NJ

Commuter hub with NYC access

Hugging the banks of North Jersey’s Saddle River, Lodi’s suburban vibes offer residents a break from the general hustle and bustle of the area – while still allowing easy access to New York City. Originally an industrial town, Lodi has evolved into a commuter hub for those working in the Big Apple. “Lodi is a really desirable location for a number of reasons,” says Joseph Simone, real estate agent with Howard Hanna-Rand Realty and longtime resident of the area. “The location is outstanding, and you can get more house here for less since the prices are more reasonable.”

Lodi's modest yards and gardening s[ace

Homes in Lodi have an established character, with many of them being built in the first half of the 20th century. Styles include Colonial Revivals, Cape Cods and ranch-styles, some with modest yards and space for gardening – something that’s especially appealing given just how developed most of the area is. Simone says the area appeals to a wide variety of people. “The whole town is really diverse,” he says. “You have first-time buyers along with folks who have lived here for years and don’t want to give up that access to New York City.” Prices for a single-family range from $400,000 to $850,000 – though some particularly large estates can go for as high as $1.5 million.

Shopping and dining on Memorial Drive

Lodi’s diversity is well represented in its abundance of shopping and dining options, many on Memorial Drive. El Machetico Colombiano offers an authentic Colombian breakfast with coffee, corn arepas, and sweet bunelo pastries. La Fortaleza is the go-to spot for Mexican classics, while those looking for old-school New York-style pizza can pick up a slice at CJ’s Pizza & Good Eats. Those looking to restock on groceries can go to ShopRite, or at the farmers market. Midtowne Plaza and Lodi Commons provide retail options, with recognizable chains such as Family Dollar and Great Clips making up just a few of the options.

Commuting to NYC

Residents enjoy direct access to Routes 17, 46, 80, 4, and 95, while the Newark Airport is 22 minutes away. Access to New York City is a huge benefit here. “Residents can be in the city within 35 minutes,” Simone says. “So what you end up with is a place that feels very suburban, but really couldn’t get much more urban.” While train access is not directly available within Lodi, residents can travel to nearby stations or rely on the area’s bus stops for public transport.
