A resort feel right in the neighborhood
Between the watery canals, stucco homes and streets with names like Sorrento Drive and Garibaldi Lane, this neighborhood looks more like a slice of the Mediterranean than Long Beach. “Naples is like Venice up in Los Angeles,” says Kelsea Mazzocco, Realtor with First Team Real Estate and Long Beach native. “There are all these canals, and people stand-up paddleboard along them. It feels like a resort town. There’s a lot of diversity, but it’s this small niche people don’t really know about.” Resident Katie Rowe, director of the neighborhood watch, says, “It's really magical to live in a place that many people would consider a vacation destination! We are a literal island in the middle of a giant metro area, complete with canals, gondolas, beautiful homes and lovely neighbors.”

Naples' beach and boating options
While there are a few pocket parks scattered throughout the neighborhood, like La Bella Fontana di Napoli, which features a tiered fountain, Marine Park is the most popular outdoor hangout for neighbors, from the grassy area surrounding the park and playground to the beach. Marine Park encompasses Mother’s Beach, which gets its name from its gentle waves and shallow depth, making it safe for families and novice swimmers.
“We are definitely a water community since we live on an island," says Rowe. "Swimming, paddleboarding and sailing are all really popular.” Many use Mother’s Beach as a launch point for canoes and kayaks, but numerous docks and lagoons are throughout the island. The neighborhood’s waterways stay busy, as residents enjoy traveling by boat as a hobby or for transportation. Mazzocco says stand-up paddleboarding is the official sport here. “It’s really fun,” she says. “Everybody goes around on SUPs.”
Seaside Spanish Revivals and Mediterranean villas
Tall palm trees and red tile roofs give the neighborhood a Mediterranean look. Naples Island's layout also feels European, with alleyways and a compact grid layout that invites residents to walk or bike everywhere.
Homes are a mix of Spanish Revival and Mediterranean styles, sometimes with contemporary twists like picture windows and angular architecture. Single-family homes with stucco siding and terra cotta roofs start at $1.2 million but can exceed $9 million for larger homes with private boat docks and luxury amenities like wine cellars. Buyers should know, says Mazzocco, “Homes usually go for at least $200,000 over the asking price. Prices aren’t going to go down with the higher interest rates because we have a low inventory. We get multiple offers on every home.” For buyers who want a view of the water without paying the premium for a personal dock, condos are an option. Condos usually list for around $425,000 to just under $1 million, depending on the size of the space and its amenities. Many condos offer amenities like pools and gyms.
Naples homes include a variety of home-styles, including Spanish style houses.

Naples hosts city-wide events and neighborhood socials
Naples attracts all who love being on the water. Neighbors and Long Beach residents gather each December for the annual Boat Parade. Participants decorate their vessels with bright holiday decorations. The event attracts everything from yachts to sailboats to cruise the canals. Less officially, the waterways host races and casual cruising throughout the year. The Naples Improvement Association plans many community events for Naples neighbors. Holidays are commemorated with egg hunts, toy drives and house decoration contents. Residents can also look forward to concerts in the park, cook-offs and flea markets.

Second Street restaurants and mainland south Long Beach shopping
“We are so lucky to have so many amazing options," says Jessica Ripoll, lifelong Long Beach resident and Naples Improvement Association volunteer. "They seem to be getting better and better!” Rowe and Ripoll both endorse Kihon Sushi on the island. Michael’s and K.C. Branagan’s are also favorite spots for a night out. It’s easy to access more options on the Long Beach mainland. “We can easily walk to the many restaurants on Second Street,” says Ripoll. “If you have a boat or dinghy, it’s also a great treat to take a short cruise to the Boathouse on the Bay or Schooner or Later.”
Just across the Second Street Bridge, Marina Pacifica’s shopping centers provide retail options for essentials and specialty goods. Shoppers pick up ingredients at Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods, explore the boutiques and stores at 2ND & PCH Mall, or dine out at one of the local or chain restaurants.

Kids attend Long Beach Unified schools
Long Beach offers parents school choice, but students will not have to leave their neighborhood for highly rated schools. Each school students are assigned to has earned an A from Niche. Kids are set to attend Naples Elementary School and Will Rogers Middle School. Most neighborhood kids will attend Woodrow Wilson High School. Throughout high school, students will be enrolled in specialized academic pathways that prepare them for a future career. Kids are encouraged to participate in extracurriculars, which will earn them medallions upon graduation.
Naples Elementary is one of the top elementary schools in Eastern Long Beach.
Wilson High School resides in Long Beach's Recreation Park neighborhood.

Travel by car, cart, foot or boat
Naples is so walkable that Katie Rowe says she only drives on weekdays to go to work. Ripoll also walks everywhere. The island of Naples is roughly a mile wide its mainland communities are compact, so there isn’t much ground to cover. While many residents own cars for commuting, car traffic is not the only traffic in Naples. Ripoll says many residents get around via golf carts. Boating is also a common transportation option. There are docks and boat launching points on walkable pathways around the community.
Naples residents can utilize the Long Beach Transit to take them where they need to go.
Naples has a lively boating culture with many residences owning a yacht in various sizes.
