Incorporated Long Island village with suburban amenities
Lake Grove is a compact Long Island village within the town of Brookhaven. “What makes this neighborhood different is that it is incorporated and manages its own water and waste, which requires an extra tax,” says Alex Goldenberg, a broker with Howard Hanna Coack Realtors and resident of nearby Setauket. Because of this, homeowners have better governmental representation. Though a mostly residential area that has different styles of homes set on well-maintained quarter and half-acre lots, Lake Grove has tons of amenities. The expansive Smith Haven Mall is tucked away in its northwestern corner and has hundreds of stores. There’s a good balance between quiet streets and bustling commerce. Residents also have access to schools in three top-ranked districts and reliable commuter transportation options.

Schools in three top-ranking districts
“As with much of central Long Island, homebuyers tend to search for homes based on school districts,” says Goldenberg. Depending on where they specifically live within the area, young residents attend schools in three districts: Middle Country, Three Village and Sachem. Young Lake Grove residents can begin their education at Eugene Auer Elementary, which has an A-minus and a 14 to 1 student ratio. While Samoset Middle has an A-minus score, Ward Melville Senior High maintains an impressive A-plus. These schools are relatively close to most homes. Some students can even walk or bike to school.
Sachem High School North is located off of Smith Road.

Lake Ronkonkoma and Walter S. Commerdinger, Jr. County Park
Like most central Long Island areas, Lake Grove benefits from nearby parks and nature preserves, both small and large. The Lake Ronkonkoma Recreation Center is nearby and has basketball courts and sandy beaches for summertime swimming. Walter S. Commerdinger, Jr. County Park is a sizeable nature preserve with a dog run. Nesconset’s Andreoli Park has a large playground and sits next to fishing hole Gibbs Pond. Dorchester is among a few pocket parks spread throughout the village. Most of the area’s schools have ample sports fields that are open to the public.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Lake Grove, NY is a wonderful place to live. Neighbors here are amazingly friendly. The Town of Lake Grove always has our neighborhood plowed quickly during and after a snow storm. The Town also gives out a bundle of free leaf bags, twice a month. They also come down the streets frequently during the fall season to make sure there aren't any large sticks in the street and to remove any tree limbs that are off property line, that may take down any power lines. I love Lake Grove. It's a wonderful place to bring up a family.
