Historic neighborhood close to downtown
Sitting adjacent to downtown Longmont, Sunset is a residential neighborhood with access to plenty of shopping and dining options. As part of Old Town, the streets are lined with century-old housing options. The city itself was established in the 1870s as a Chicago-Colorado colony, with Sunset being one of its first neighborhoods on the west side. Now, its gridded streets support a suburban lifestyle while still being located near the city’s center. “It’s a great area because it’s close to hiking trails, but you can also walk to downtown,” says Marc Wishner, real estate broker and owner of Affiliated Property Brokers of Boulder, who has 30 years of experience.
Downtown Longmont is a lively place where you can bring the family and try diverse dining.
Teocalli Cocina is a popular Mexican restaurant with large outdoor patio and incredible food.

Homes between a decade and century old
Homes in Sunset are lined along gridded residential streets surrounded by mature trees. “It’s a really nice, private area, with not a huge amount of development,” Wishner says. As one of the Historic Westside neighborhoods, Craftsman bungalows built between the 1910s and 1940s, that have cottage features such as front porches and stone accents, make up the architectural landscape. These properties range from 1,000 to 3,000 square feet and can cost $535,000 to $1.1 million, depending on size and condition. Mid-century, single-story homes are also common, with vinyl siding and flat roofs. These homes range from 800 to 1,600 square feet and are priced between $400,000 and $675,000. Some of these remodeled properties have more contemporary architecture. Additionally, sprawling brick ranch-style homes go for $475,000 to $600,000.

Main Street’s shopping and dining
While a majority of Sunset is residential, there are a few local restaurant options along its streets. West Side Tavern is a gastropub on Third Avenue and has a seasonal menu and fresh ingredients. There’s also Martini’s Bistro, offering an upscale dining experience and expansive cocktail list.
Additionally, the neighborhood is close to Longmont’s Business District and its retail and restaurant scene along Main Street. Novelty shops like Snarkington’s and Wolf & Wren Press provide a unique and personalized shopping experience. Landline Doughnuts & Coffee specializes in gourmet potato doughnuts, while Rosalee’s Pizzeria is known for its vintage vibes and savory slices. Miss Krissy’s Bistro is a casual restaurant serving both southern-inspired and internationally-influenced dishes. Getting groceries requires traveling outside of the neighborhood. Longs Peak Grocery Market is around a mile north on Francis Street, and Safeway is roughly 2 miles south on Ken Pratt Boulevard.
Make sure you pick up a souvenir when visiting downtown at Snarkington’s Gifts.

Neighborhood parks and city facilities
When it comes to recreation, Sunset’s streets are dotted with green spaces and outdoor facilities. “The west side of town is very active,” Wishner says. “A lot of people will retire from Boulder and come here to settle down in a quieter location with more greenery.” The City of Longmont’s Sunset Golf Course is open to the public and has nine fairways that are lined with trees. The Sunset Neighborhood Park, also called Price Park, sits north of the golf course and has an open play area. Sunset Swimming Pool is an outdoor swimming pool with two waterslides. Farther east, toward downtown, Roosevelt Park is a local hotspot for live music in the summer. In the winter, the park hosts Longmont’s Ice Pavilion, a skating rink. There’s also a senior center and a recreation center on the grounds. Thompson Park is another green space that has a playground and a multi-use field. As part of Old Town Longmont, Old Mill Park is a designated historic landmark with multiple 19th-century cabins and buildings.

For public transportation, the local Regional Transportation District (RTD) provides bus services, which have stops along Longs Peak Avenue, Francis Street and Ninth Avenue.
