Made up of the tiny villages Longstreet and Keatchie (often spelled Keachie or Keachi), the rural neighborhood of Longstreet-Keatchie sits on Louisiana’s eastern border. Roughly 35 miles south of Shreveport, the sparsely populated neighborhood offers private, country living. “All of DeSoto Parish is pretty rural, with a small population, but when it comes to the Longstreet-Keatchie area, if you blink, you might miss it,” says Cindy Taylor, an area native and broker with T & T Realty, LLC. “Not many people move to the area from somewhere else, they just move around within the area,” Taylor says. “Families usually live here for generations, and most people who move away end up moving back to be closer to family and friends or to live on a property that was passed down to them.”

Open land and rural landscapes equate to acreage opportunities

Buyers in the Longstreet-Keatchie area generally have a choice of manufactured homes, traditional midcentury ranch-style homes, or sprawling new farmhouse-style builds with open floor plans. Many homes here, regardless of their style, sit on wooded, multi-acre lots, and often there are large empty lots for sale. Manufactured homes and fixer-uppers can be found for less than $100,000 and can range to $200,000 depending on acreage and amenities, and new farmhouse-style homes built within the last decade can go for $300,000 to $500,000 or more, depending on the acreage.
