Camp Taylor has a storied history. Located six miles southeast of Louisville, it was a World War I military camp where famed American author F. Scott Fitzgerald was stationed and was the largest military camp at the time. Today, Camp Taylor is home to about 6,800 residents and is surrounded by some of the best amenities in Louisville, including The Louisville Zoo, Camp Taylor Memorial Park and several contemporary new restaurants.
"Camp Taylor is having a resurgence due to its competitively priced homes and proximity to the 'hip' areas of Louisville," says Deborah Cox, Realtor with RE/MAX 100 and a Louisville real estate agent for 27 years. The median sales price for homes in the first quarter of 2024 is about $200,000. Buyers in Camp Taylor will find bungalows, Cape Cod-style homes and cottages. The overall vibe in Camp Taylor is fairly quiet, suburban and low-key. Sidewalk-lined streets are just west of Poplar Level Road and are anchored at both the west and east ends by parks, schools, churches and restaurants.
Cottages, bungalows and ranch-style homes welcome buyers to Camp Taylor
Homebuyers will find well-renovated cottages from the 1940s that have recently sold for $200,000 to $275,000, while brick ranch-style homes have sold for about $175,000 to $310,000. Bungalows from the 1940s with covered front porches have recently sold from $250,000 to $280,000.
