A little city with close neighbors
Located in northeast Jefferson County, the city of Graymoor-Devondale is about 10 miles from downtown Louisville. “The city is actually made up of 13 different developments that were built between the 1950s and early 1970s that all came together in the mid-1980s,” says Graymoor-Devondale’s Mayor John Vaughan. When the locale was reincorporated in 1987, residents voted for a home rule system of government — which means that this independent little community has its own mayor, city council and police chief. “There are about 800 homes here and neighbors are very closeknit. In fact, there’s a lot of multi-generational families. Many adult children chose to stay in Graymoor-Devondale and buy their own homes. All my kids have homes here,” says Mayor Vaughan. It’s easy to see why. Originally farmland, today the area is defined by tall shade trees framing quiet streets that seem more reminiscent of country lanes than city roads. As the mayor notes, the community’s vibe may feel rural, but it's convenient location to all the amenities is anything but.
There are approximately 870 homes in the Graymoor-Devondale neighborhood.

This is a very walkable neighborhood. Homes sit on generous lots with private driveways and garages. Front yards are landscaped and verdant. Sidewalks help bring neighbors together as dog walkers and bike riders greet one another and wave at kids playing street basketball under the occasional portable basketball hoop. Traditional ranch-style housing is prevalent in the community, but Cape Cods, split-levels and spacious Neo-Colonial models are present as well. There are a handful of newer condominium and townhouse complexes in the southeast corner of the neighborhood. Expect to pay between $275,000 for a 3-bedroom ranch to around $400,000 for a brick colonial home.
