Taylor Berry connects to the greater Louisville area through Interstate 264 on the south end and KY-2054/Algonquin Parkway to the north. Other major thoroughfares include 7th Street and Central Avenue. Residents can expect a commute of about 4 miles into downtown Louisville. Caring community centers and thrilling theme park rides

The South Louisville Community Center provides exercise equipment, a gym, an indoor walking track and other amenities. The community center also hosts the Dare to Care Kids Café for children to receive warm evening meals and participate in after-school programs five days a week for free. The parks nearby offer reliable options for green space when Taylor Berry residents want to enjoy some outdoor time. Locals can take the kids out to the playground and carousel at William Harrison Park, schedule some ‘me time‘ with a walk on the trail at South Central Park or enjoy a fishing day at Watterson Lake Park. Wyandotte Park offers pickleball, picnic tables and basketball courts close to the neighborhood’s southeast end. Locals are also three miles away from Kentucky Kingdom. Open at various points from May through December, the theme park features more than 50 attractions, including five roller coasters. In the summertime, the neighboring park Hurricane Bay offers waterslides, a lazy river and more.

Science, math and arts at Jefferson County Public Schools

Young learners attend schools such as Jacob Elementary School, which has a student-teacher ratio of 12 to 1 and holds a C grade on Niche. Olmsted Academy Middle School offers a science, technology, arts and mathematics program for students on two campuses. The north campus has an all-boys student body, while the south campus is an all-girls school. Both hold C-minus grades on Niche. College-bound students attend the C-ranked Iroquois High School, which allows students to choose a concentration to focus on within dedicated industrial, human service and creative arts programs.

Big festivals in April for the Kentucky Derby

One of Louisville’s major claims to fame, the Kentucky Derby, happens in early May at Churchill Downs, just east of Taylor Berry on Central Avenue. Locals and traveling horse racing fans alike gather each year to kick off the Triple Crown season with the Kentucky Derby Festival. The festivities begin with the bombastic Thunder Over Louisville air and fireworks show, and events such as marathons, hot air balloon and steamboat races, live music, block parties and much more fill the Derby City’s streets in the two weeks leading up to the big day.

Places of worship nearby include Sojourn Church Carlisle, which hosts regular outreach events such as Halloween trunk-or-treat nights and Juneteenth celebrations. Kingdom Land Baptist Church offers periodic food pantry days just north of the neighborhood on 11th Street, and Al Nur Masjid has hosted educational events like CPR classes just east of the neighborhood on 4th Street. Potential residents are advised that Taylor Berry’s CAP Index ratings for homicide, robberies, burglaries and assault with weapons are notably higher than the national average. Community advocates and local government have both initiated efforts to curb the levels of violent crime near Taylor Boulevard and across Louisville.
