Small-town living south of Louisville
Located southwest of Louisville, just outside the Gene Snyder Freeway, Valley Village is a quiet Kentucky neighborhood where residents enjoy small-town living and views of the scenic Ohio River. "It’s a close-knit community where everyone knows each other. I know most people who come into my restaurant by name," says Ashley Herrod, manager of Derby City Pizza and a life-long Valley Village resident. Dixie Highway contours the neighborhood and provides locals with easy access to a selection of hometown shopping and dining options, like Herrod's pizzeria. "Plus, We’re a community. If you have a problem, it's not a big thing to go to your neighbor for help. We look after each other here," says Herrod. Valley Village is home to people of all ages, from young families to long-term homeowners, and it's also a popular spot for military families and those who work at nearby Fort Knox. Many residents also seek out Valley Village for employment opportunities at longstanding local companies like Kosmos Cement, which first began shipping cement from this location in 1905, or the Louisville Gas and Electric Company, which opened their Mill Creek Station in 1968.
