Residential neighborhood near Main Line rail corridor

Gladwyne, a picturesque neighborhood in Lower Merion Township near Philadelphia's famous Main Line rail corridor, has a mix of newer, luxurious homes and older properties dating to the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Woodmont is a must-see landmark overlooking the river, built in 1894 for Alan Wood, Jr., a steel tycoon and U.S. congressman. The French Gothic-style mansion was designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1998, and visitors can tour the home and grounds on Sunday afternoons from April to October. Many famous people have called Gladwyne home, including Philadelphia sports legends Allen Iverson and Chase Utley. The Philadelphia Country Club was built here in 1890 after acquiring land from Woodmont and has been a prominent fixture in Gladwyne ever since. The private club, which offers a 27-hole golf course, is one of the oldest in the country and hosted the U.S. Open in 1939.
