Loxley is the first town vacationers reach when they leave Interstate 10 and head south toward Gulf Shores. That tourist traffic and easy access to jobs in Mobile drove rapid growth in Loxley, which saw its population more than double between 2010 and 2020. Loxley became a city in 2022. "It was a sleepy small town, and it's a little farther from the city, but because of its proximity to the highway and the investment put into it, it's transforming," says Realtor Cindy Zebryk with Coldwell Banker Reehl Prop Fairhope. The community is home to many retirement-aged residents, which the city supports with events like a weekly senior breakfast, senior potlucks and a community center that holds exercise and craft classes. Younger families are moving into Loxley, and the city recently built the Museum of Loxley, which displays and commemorates its history for newer residents to remember.
