Residents of Melonie Park enjoy a quiet neighborhood.
Well-manicured South Lubbock community
Sitting atop Loop 289, Melonie Park was developed in the 1960s and '70s as a family-oriented community built around schools and walkable tree-lined streets. Even as the south side of Lubbock has continued its fast economic development, the neighborhood has maintained its identity. "It's very well maintained and manicured, and mostly homeowners that live there,” says Justin Lowrey, a Realtor with The Whisenhunt Group at Keller Williams Realty, who describes it as one of the nicest older neighborhoods in Lubbock. “When a house goes up for sale, they're typically pretty affordable, and they go really quick. People really like that."
Ranch-style homes and larger architectural designs
While much of South Lubbock is made up of newer developments, Melonie Park captures a bygone era with midcentury homes set on finely landscaped yards with mature trees and shrubbery. Many homes have been remodeled in recent years, adding fresh design touches. “There are several bigger two-story homes that are very unique," says Lowrey. "And then there's a lot of the ranch style, or bigger one-story homes and some good square footage.” Buyers are attracted to the relative affordability in one of Lubbock’s more established south-side neighborhoods. Houses start at around $250,000 and can go as high as $400,000.
Two story homes are not common in Melonie Park, but you can spot a couple if you look hard.

Sought-after education at Miller Elementary
Students typically start at Miller Elementary School, rated A-minus on Niche, which Lowrey describes as “one of the most prized schools” in the Lubbock Independent School District. Constructed in 2013, the school takes its name from Lubbock educator and community advocate Jayne Ann Miller. They can move on to Evans Middle School and Monterey High, rated B-plus and B, respectively.
