Suburban north Lubbock community
Located in Lubbock’s growing northwest quadrant, North by Northwest is a neighborhood centered around newer construction homes, ample recreation and opportunities for commuters to take advantage of the city’s growing regional economic footprint. “I would say for anybody that takes their kids to school north of Lubbock to a smaller town, they live here. The LISD (Lubbock Independent School District) taxes are so much cheaper. But you also get some medical people looking for something that's newer, but cheaper,” says Cole Whisenhunt, a Realtor with Keller Williams. “Obviously you can get something let's say $250,000 that's newer, and they hop on this right here and they're right by the hospital within six, seven minutes, maybe eight minutes, as opposed to, I'm going to go buy something that's built in 1930 and I'm going pay $50,000 More.” With two hospitals, Texas Tech University and close access to Loop 289, the neighborhood is in proximity to the core of Lubbock’s economic base.

West Texas golf paradise
With golf courses bordering the east and west ends, there is no question that North by Northwest residents have ample greenery to explore. Established in 2003, The Rawls Course at Texas Tech is home to the Red Raiders men's and women's golf program and has been recognized by Golfweek as one of the top courses in the state. The par 72 course covers 7,207 yards and was designed by Tom Doak incorporating minimalist design principles around the natural features of Lubbock’s south plains region. The course has hosted multiple NCAA regional tournaments. Heading west, Whisenhunt says Shadow Hills Golf Course is regarded as the best public course in Lubbock. A bit shorter at 6,777 yards, the course is surrounded by ponds and mature trees with crisp fairways and soft greens.

From ancient finds to outdoor recreation in Lubbock’s northwest corridor
Lubbock Lake Landmark is an active archaeological excavation site with evidence of human activity dating back 12,000 years. Artistic interpretations of the Columbian mammoth and American lion based on bones found are prominently featured at the adjoining Robert A. Nash Interpretive Center. Visitors can also enjoy 4.5 miles of trails covered in wildflowers, popular with birders and hikers alike. In addition to annual excavations, the site hosts night hikes and fun runs to harness the area’s natural beauty. Right next door, the Berl Huffman Athletic Complex is the hub for the city’s athletic infrastructure with 350,000 feet of soccer and softball fields. The complex is an economic driver for Lubbock as home of the Lubbock Soccer Association where it hosts regional tournaments. A $7 million investment in 2018 added more fields, an irrigation system and bathrooms to enhance the overall experience and infrastructure. For more passive enjoyment, Richard Lopez Park sits in the center of the neighborhood and has a grassy open field for quiet, tranquil strolls and a playground where younger kids have the freedom to create and explore.
