As Lubbock continues to expand, neighborhoods like Northridge, on the western fringes of the city, are becoming more attractive. Loop 289 runs along its eastern edge, giving residents easy access to West End Center, one of the largest shopping centers in Lubbock, just a half-mile away, and to downtown, 7 miles away. "If you don't want to feel like you're in the city and you want to go a little bit further out, that's why people would move west," says Wilson Bowling, a neighborhood planner with the City of Lubbock. Northridge, which features quiet, sidewalk-lined streets and a recently upgraded park, is part of the top-rated Frenship Independent School District.

Highly rated schools including North Ridge Elementary
The Frenship Independent School District serves the community and is rated A-plus on Niche. Students can attend North Ridge Elementary, located in the neighborhood, with an A rating. Terra Visa Middle and Frenship High are also rated A. Frenship ISD has been growing at a rate of 2 to 5 percent annually, and by the end of 2024 will have added four new schools to accommodate the increasing population. The district has dual enrollment opportunities through the early college program and students can take up to 60 credits at Angelo State University.
North Ridge Elementary School has an enrollment of 718 students.
At Terra Vista Middle, 4% of students scored at or above the proficient level for reading.
Frenship High School is #414 in Texas High Schools.

Newly updated Cooke Park
Upgraded in 2023, Cooke Park has a new playground with four slides, a rock wall for kids and a Mommy and Me swing. Other amenities include a walking track, multiuse courts and a picnic pavilion. Easy access to West End Center
On the edges of the neighborhood are many dining and shopping options. A popular spot to watch Texas Tech Red Raiders games, Cujo's Sports Bar & Grill was founded by Red Raiders alum and Lubbock native Curtis Jordan, a two-time Super Bowl champion with the then-Washington Redskins. Nearby, the family-owned Nora's Mexican Food Restaurant serves up homemade Mexican fare. A Walmart Supercenter and several fast-food chains are tucked into the northeast corner of the community, and a United Supermarkets is also in the neighborhood. A half mile south is West End Center, one of the largest shopping centers in Lubbock, with national brands like Costco, Cabela's, Best Buy and Duluth Trading Company and chain restaurants like P.F. Chang's. Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Lubbock is to the north on Loop 289.
