West Loop Lubbock community with new homes
As part of Lubbock’s first westward expansion, Westchester forged a path for Lubbock’s continued growth trajectory. Built on land acquired by the city in 1984, the neighborhood is made up of mostly new developments with homes constructed in the last 20 years and more development on the horizon. “Lubbock is a very interesting city. “it’s a city that’s built in the middle of open land so we don’t have the constraints of many other cities even our size to redevelop and build,” says Wilson Bowling, a neighborhood planner with the City of Lubbock. “We just continue to build out.” Westchester, like other neighborhoods west of Loop 289, is known for the feeling of having a more tranquil environment while being within 15 minutes of anywhere in the city and backed with strong schools and access to shopping. “The allure is things get quieter. Even though you have the amenities close, you still feel like you’re further out,” Bowling adds.
Newly built traditional ranch-style homes
Houses in Westchester are on the newer end, constructed from the early 2000s to the 2020s. Traditional ranch-style homes with three or four bedrooms and attached garages make up the bulk of the neighborhood. Most homes come with a brick exterior and modern interior design concepts. Homes here list for between $200,000 and $300,000.
The streets of Westchester are full of new traditional-style homes.
Many homes in the Westchester neighborhood are single story with brick exteriors.

Local independent restaurants and businesses
For a bite to eat, Westchester residents are in good hands with several nearby restaurant options. At Mama Josie’s Kitchen & Catering, Mexican comfort food is all the rave with breakfast burritos to start the day and menu options like the aptly named Red Raider plate with a cheese enchilada, taco and a beef burrito. Cagle Steaks & BBQ is a family-owned restaurant that does things the ‘old way.’ Founded in 1996, the restaurant has a vintage West Texas exterior and some of the best steaks and catfish in Lubbock. When hunting for the next great find, antique pickers can visit the Antique Mall of Lubbock. Founded in 1985, it has more than 24,000 square feet of antiques and collectibles from classic signs, vintage furniture and toys from yesteryear. The interior is like a living museum of American culture and a playground for antique hunters on the prowl for their next find. For everyday items, United Supermarkets is right in the neighborhood.
Mama Josie's Kitchen is a popular drive thru Mexican restaurant located near downtown.
Customers trickle into local favorite Cagle Steaks & BBQ not too far from Westchester.
