A small Lynchburg community with a big-city vibe

Because it’s so close to Liberty University, Cornerstone tends to be a place people settle after graduation, or even before. “It’s one of my favorite neighborhoods—for personal reasons and to sell—because it has a big city vibe in a small area,” says Sabrina Tomlin, a Realtor with NextHome TwoFourFive who was born and raised in Lynchburg. “This feeling attracts a younger crowd; It’s a hot spot for Liberty students.” People can wake up and walk to breakfast or finish their day at the gym and get home on foot in no time . “Cornerstone caters to people, like students, who might not have a car,” says Aaliya Robertson, a local who has lived in Lynchburg her entire life. “They even have traffic-stopping poles to help pedestrians cross the street.”

Traditional diner food and outdoor tiki bars

Residents can start their mornings at Mission House Coffee with a latte or cappuccino, and then pop over to the Texas Inn Cornerstone for traditional diner food. Mellow Mushroom Lynchburg serves pizza in a funky, colorful environment, and Iron & Ale Lynchburg Tap and Table, a popular spot with an outdoor tiki bar and cornhole. “There are a lot of restaurants that are within walking distance of each other,” says Robertson. People can get ingredients to cook their own meals at the Kroger on Timberlake Road. Walmart and Lowe’s also sit along the main road.

Where to live in Cornerstone

Cornerstone is mostly full of townhomes and condos with colonial and Italianate architecture priced between $200,000 and $300,000. There’s also a lot of student housing—like The VUE at Cornerstone—Robertson says., and some single-family options like contemporary homes and bungalows. Single-family homes tend to cost between $300,000 to $400,000, and most of them have small lawns and driveways leading to wide sidewalks.
