Southland Center is a multipurpose athletic center on Volbrecht Road that houses facilities for sports such as volleyball, basketball and baseball. A mile’s drive north can take residents to Brownell Woods, one of the many woodland parks included in the Forest Preserves of the Cook County system. One of the biggest appeals is that it’s really quiet, and a place where you can come to unwind after a busy day,” says Banks. Most homes in the area were built after 1970, and continuous development means new homes are consistently popping up on the market. To finish their education, Lynwood kids will head to Lansing to learn at Thornton Fractional South High School, rated a B-minus. Thornton students can participate in the College Step-Up Program, which allows seniors to earn up to 12 college credits before graduating high school.
