Tiny residential area in the heart of Manchester
Somerville is a small, rectangular residential neighborhood just south of downtown Manchester. It’s urban, with cracked streets and sidewalks, tall telephone poles with visible wires and the occasional business squeezed into a residential street next to early 20th-century multifamily houses. Locals park on the streets or in driveways protected by chain-link fences. Somerville is directly west of Mammoth Road, a major Manchester thoroughfare. The areas near Mammoth Road tend to be the more desirable parts of downtown, says Realtor Cody Barna of eXp Realty.

Three-deckers, Cape Cods and bungalows
Somerville is dominated by early-to-mid 20th-century New England architecture. Three-decker homes, built to house mill workers in the early 1900s, exist today as multifamily properties. Cape Cods, ranch-style houses, townhouses and vinyl-sided colonials sit on the packed residential streets of Somerville. Houses generally sit right next to each other. Three-deckers sit directly behind the sidewalk, while some neighborhood Cape Cods and bungalows have small front lawns. Home prices range between $220,000 and $470,000. Property taxes in New Hampshire are high; the state’s median annual property tax payment is $6,097. “Near Cilley Road and north there are a lot of multifamily houses, but as you go south closer to the airport there are going to be more and more single-family homes,” says Barna.
