Welcome to Green Harbor a cozy beach community.
Waterfront dining, housing, and recreation at a summertime playground
The Green Harbor community sits just outside of downtown Marshfield, less than 40 miles from the heart of Boston. It’s known for having a large number of homes and restaurants just a short trip away from an assortment of different parks and beaches. Days can be spent hiking or out on the water before returning to midcentury homes on large lots to watch the sun setting over marshes and conservation land throughout the area. “The whole beach community is like a summertime playground,” says Dawn Hadley, a Realtor at Engel & Völkers South Shore who has been serving the community for over seven years, later adding, “It's even within a good proximity to Boston, so it's popular with commuters.”

Beaches, conservation areas and golf courses
For residents of Green Harbor, beaches are by far the biggest draw. The area has five of them, each offering amenities ranging from boat ramps and fishing spots to watersport rentals and plenty of room to lie out in the sun. Green Harbor Beach and Duxbury Beach Park are the closest to the community, while other nearby options, like Sunrise Beach to the north, are popular with locals. For inland fun, the Mass Audubon's Daniel Webster Wildlife Sanctuary offers almost 4 miles of trails throughout the conservation area and a scenic backdrop to many of the community’s homes. The nearby Peter Igo Park is another popular spot, according to Hadley, with pickleball and tennis courts alongside a boat launch and playset. Tee times can be booked at Green Harbor Golf Club, which has an 18-hole public course, as well as a 16-bay driving range with food service.

Beach cottages turned into forever homes
Many of the homes in Green Harbor are similar to what can be expected from most beachfront communities. It’s primarily populated by Colonial Revival, split-level and Cape Cod-inspired homes built in the early to mid-20th century. “The area has a lot of beach cottages, but recently a lot of people have been turning them into year-round homes,” Hadley says. Many houses in the community also sport fresh coats of paint to make them pop more from their positions and more set back from the street. In the larger yards, residents can find larger driveways, garages and views of conservation areas or the ocean, depending on where the house is located. Homes not on the water commonly range between $500,000 and $800,000, while waterfront properties can range between $700,000 and almost $2 million. The community is known to have a high risk of flooding, and many homeowners are advised to get flood insurance.

Local beachfront restaurants
For many in Green Harbor, mornings start at SlackTide Coffee Roasters for either their locally roasted coffee or one of their unique donuts featuring toppings like Lucky Charms or whipped cream. For lunch or dinner, The Jetty has a constantly growing and changing menu, with beachside options like patio burgers and BBQ-ranch chicken sandwiches. Diners can also grab pizza and pasta at Mama Mia’s or a seat at their wraparound bar. Daily necessities can be found at the Green Harbor General Store or the nearby Star Market to the west.

Walking and driving in the Marshfield area
Careswell Street and Webster Street are the main thoroughfares for the Green Harbor community. These roads provide access to state Route 3A to the west, which allows residents to get to the heart of the Duxbury and Marshfield communities. State Route 3 is a little farther to the west and is the major commuting route for those trying to get to Boston. The quiet roads in the area also provide space for walkers and bikers looking to get to the beach or a nearby restaurant. “That’s the real neat thing about Green Harbor, it has great walking and biking areas, as well as good roads to get to nearby towns,” Handley says. The Brigham and Women's Health Care Center is 9 miles west of the neighborhood, and Boston Logan International Airport is 39 miles away to the northeast.
Green Harbor students will finish at Marshfield High School.
Marshfield Public Schools
Students can attend kindergarten through fifth grade at the Governor Edward Winslow School, which receives an A rating on Niche. They can then continue to Furnace Brook Middle School, which earns an A-minus, before finishing up at the B-plus-rated Marshfield High School. The high school is known for its established sports program under its mascot, the Rams.
July 3rd in Marshfield
While many Massachusetts communities put in a lot of work , the July 3rd Party in Marshfield is where the area truly shines. On this day, the entire community comes together on the streets and the beach for a day filled with food, live music, fireworks and a bonfire. “It’s like a huge big block party with everyone all around, and all the roads are closed.”
