Affordable living in a close-knit suburban community

Along the shores of the Mahoning River is the little suburban community of McDonald. Historically a company town for the Carnegie Steel Company, the community has since developed into a small but tight-knit community. “This community is pretty small, only about five miles wide, but very tight-knit and affordable,” says William Broxson from Century 21. Locals live in humble suburban homes minutes away from public spaces, frequently hosting community get-togethers and seasonal events.

Established homes in a community where everyone knows each other

Locals live along wide suburban streets and quiet avenues fringed by tall oak trees and well-landscaped lawns. Home styles range from modest ranch-style homes to traditional Foursquare and Cape Cod homes. Spacious lawns are a common feature of McDonald’s homes, and locals go all out for decorating around the holidays. “McDonald is very tight-knit, to the point that locals will be able to spot who’s a local and who’s not just looking at the local traffic,” says William Broxson, a local realtor from Century 21 with $6 million in total sales. Home prices range from $52,000 for a modest home up to $443,000 for homes with larger home lots.

Award-winning school district and championship athletics in McDonald schools

William Broxson from Century 21 Realty says this community “has one of the best school districts in the county, lots of really good schools close by.” Public school students start their academic careers at primary schools such as Seaborn Elementary. The school has an overall A-minus rating on Niche and teaches from pre-kindergarten to sixth grade. Students move on to intermediate and secondary institutions such as Niles Middle and McDonald High School. Both schools have at least an overall C-rating on Niche. McDonald High School has championship-winning athletic programs, with multiple title wins from their cross-country and track-and-field teams. Football season brings the community together to watch McDonald High School’s Blue Devils run the field.

The neighborhood goes all out for the holidays, with many homes featuring beautiful decorations and landscaped yards.
